Something

The reason I said it's a "something" bridge is because I was hoping, and am still hoping, that someone who knows what kind of bridge this is will come along and fix it. - Denimadept (talk) 22:40, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

There appear to be some pictures of the bridge at Road Fan web site which look like a normal steel multi-stringer beam bridge, so I'll label it like that for now. If someone knows better, please correct me! - Denimadept (talk) 22:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Merge

• Merge - This article existed first, and it's a named article (VVB) rather than titled with only a descriptive title (I-480 Bridge), so this seems like the one to keep. Not that I'm biased or anything, but I think this article has better organization. - Denimadept (talk) 18:04, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

• Merge- They are obviously referring to the same bridges, so no point in having two articles on the same thing. I agree with both previous posters since "I-480 bridge" is not a unique name (I-480 has several bridges), but "Valley View Bridge" is, plus locally that is what it is referred to. Open 1975 or 1978

The newspaper article which I just added as a reference states 1975 as the date of opening of the bridges and adjacent sections of 480 but other newspaper articles which I've just researched (and will be adding to the article) state "1978" like the article did before I edited it. USDOT's National Bridge Inventory (available in searchable format at http://www.nationalbridges.com/) says the bridges were built in 1975. It's possible, however, that the bridges weren't open until later if the approaches weren't done. Brian Powell (talk) 17:51, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

I guess it's 1978. Even though the Cleveland Memory Project says 1973, its source is Bridges of Metropolitan Cleveland, which itself says that the bridges were under construction in 1976. I don't have easy access to Plain Dealers before the 1980s, so I'll look for other sources. (The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History lists no date.) I'm not sure what "check with Ohio" means; the ODOT website is available to all, and contacting someone directly isn't a good source re Wikipedia:Verifiability#Burden of evidence: "The source should be cited clearly and precisely to enable readers to find the text that supports the article content in question" – a general cite of "Ohio Department of Transportation District 12", i.e. "I e-mailed them and this is what the e-mail says", won't work because no verifiable text is available to the reader. Look what I found: Page 18 of this document says 1975 (IDs 1812521 and 1812548; ignore the July 1 date since ALL are dated July 1.) However, I think that I'll leave the article as-is right now since 1978 seems to be the most cited date, and the ECH says the bridges were under construction in 1976 (it'd be different if it said that I-480 was under construction then but that the bridges were completed at the time).
