- I'd say it needs to be merged with Ansible, and possibly given a better title; maybe "Superluminal communication in fiction", to match Superluminal communication, although personally I prefer to just say "faster-than-light". --DocumentN (talk) 07:00, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
I followed this link from the "ansible" page. I've never heard of "ultrawave". I don't think these should be combined, because ansible is a specific science fiction literature term, used especially in work by Ursula K. LeGuin. DocumentN, I disagree with what you said as it applies to the "Ansible" article. The first paragraph ("origin") describes the first use of "Ansible", the second ("Usage") states many authors who have used the specific name, and a few sentences of other (non-"ansible") uses, followed by discussion of two examples (LeGuin and Card). After that ("in reality") is a little non-specific discussion. However, the Ultrawave article, in itself, is pretty weak. I can see a couple of sentences from that being put into the Ansible article and the Ultrawave article deleted. - I disagree with a merge as well. The two are not equivalent simply because they both involve FTL communication: "ultrawaves" use energy waves, ansibles do not. If someone wants to add a section to the superluminal communication article called "superluminal communication in fiction", I think that would be an excellent idea. That article could use with a bit more meat on its bones. You could link to ansible, ultrawave, and presumably other articles. Aren't there sci-fi series with FTL psychic communication? Even Star Wars had those holographic things, although I don't think they ever mentioned any details about them. Seems like plenty of information to add to superluminal communication. - Considering both The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and Brave New Words: The Oxford Dictionary of Science Fiction (link) have Ansible as a "see also"/"compare" item, my suggestion would be to add a brief mention there as a related term and then redirect.
