Climate

I don't want to add this to the Udachnaya pipe page yet since I don't know this for sure, but I believe this mine, because of it's depth and size, has its own climatic system? Perhaps somebody knows about this or feel like researching it? Damon20 18:31, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Spelling

My glimpse into online sources revealed, that "Udachnaya mine" and "Udachnaya pipe" are two competing namings for this. In sources by Russian authors "Udachnaya pipe" seems to prevail, while "Udachnaya mine" is also sometimes used, in particular, in some English sources. But this is just a glimpse. A research on which of the two names is more suitable (i.e., for example, which of them is preferred in encyclopedias like Britannica, Encarta, etc.?) would be appreciated. Does anyone have the coordinates for this in Google Earth? I've found Udachnaya, but can't see the mine. The Mir mine was easy to find - right next to Mirny.

Helicopter

should there be something noted about helicopters unable to fly above the pit? from what has been said or what ive heard, flight above the area causes damage to the helicopter, for example being completely destroyed. i am unsure of the research required, and would appreciate help in this area as with being unable to relocate the source of information, however use of the search query in google may provide sufficient sources of information. thanks. unsigned by User:58.162.22.239 19:39, 2 March 2007

It's only likely to be dangerous to helicopters if its defended with ant-aircraft weapons. This article mentions supplies being flown in by helicopter which implies there is no problem SpinningSpark 23:02, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

being snarky and superior to contributors is rude, and it is beneath the behaviour of wiki users. all large holes are dangerous to helicopters (many open cast mines and meteor craters have flight restrictions on direct overflights by rotary winged aircraft) because of pressure differentials between the air above the ground and the air above the hole, however i'm not sure that these articles will benefit from this info.
