The ship's current status edit
The infobox for this ship lists it's status as "expended as target". However, the picture at the end of the article is described as being taken in March of 2006 and there is no mention of it being used as a target in the article. In fact, the article says the ship has been part of the reserve fleet in San Diego since 1997. Which is correct, expended or still afloat? Darry2385 01:46, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well the Naval Register has the ship listed "Stricken, to be disposed of in support of Fleet training exercise". So it will be expended as a target. However the template code is a default code regarding targets. I'll create a template later to reflect that it's a future target, not something that has already happened. - Recent photographs (August 2009) at the LPH-11 forum on Yahoo Groups indicate that LPH-11 has been seen once again in Suisan Bay. No official word from the Navy, which still lists LPH-11 as being in Pearl.--158.15.255.228 (talk) 10:44, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
If anybody has time, perhaps a list of the aircraft that served aboard the New Orleans would be groovy. I remember the Harrier jump jets operating aboard in 1977. There were also Chinooks and Sea Wolf helicopters that year. It would make a nifty inclusion since it was a helicopter carrier along with being a generic amphibious warship. Also, for the heck of it.... in the Navy us squids refered to amphibious warfare-type ships as "gator freighters." The Mighty Obbop scribbled this.Obbop 02:03, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
The ship's current status part II edit

DANFS as a reference edit
The DANFS article on this ship consists of only two sentences so therefore I do not see how the entire article was referenced as DANFS text. I removed the DANFS template and replaced it with refimprove instead. Essentially the entire article is now lacking any sources at all. --Brad (talk) 19:12, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
U.S. S. New Orleans edit
Operating in the South China Sea in 1969-1970, HMM-164 was aboard and supported the 26th Marines in combat support missions.
It was brand new and designed for the vertical assault mission.
I made landing #1001 after the Air Boss waved me off and gave the 1000th landing to a senior officer.
Still makes me smile to this day.

Task Force 78 Flagship edit
I was aboard Uss Inchon LPH-12 during Operation Endsweep in Haiphong Harbor, North Vietnam in 1973. I'm quite sure the USS New Orleans was not on site and that we were Rear Admiral Mc Cauley's Flagship. Please correct me if I'm wrong74.70.181.145 (talk) 01:51, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Lane Schermerhorn
