Talk:USS Alligator (1813)

Name / year edit

Came across this article in a 'Random' article wander. I am no history buff, but I know a ship can not be part of the US Navy in year XXXX and then be purchased by the US Navy the following year. That needs a correction or at least an explanation. I feel that a person more qualified on the War of 1812 should look into this tham myself though.

Incorrect image in infobox edit

The infobox has an image which is supposed to contain USS Alligator. Given the lack of fact-checking by the creator of this article, it comes as no surprise that something else that is incorrect has been added. This portrays the firefight that occurred between the five gunboats and the 42 carronade-armed rowboats that happened two hours after the sloop USS Alligator had been captured. This painting does not portray USS Alligator, period! Keith H99 (talk) 19:57, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
