Talk:Truth in Shredding

Hey, I honestly don't think "instrumental rock" would be valid for this one. I mean the source obviously states: "Jazz, funk metal, heavy metal, fusion, guitar jazz, and jazz instrument". This source in no way proves that this album is "instrumental rock". You have a better argument for the jazz, fusion, and metal categories than rock. Nowhere in this reference does it even mention "instrumental rock". I don't know why you're hung up on instrumental rock for this particular album? I mean you could put down funk metal if you really wanted to. What's your reason for wanting instrumental rock on this page so badly. The source you choose actually gave a good explanation on how this album is jazz and fusion. So I think I'll use it to put "jazz" in the genre box. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.68.229.237 (talk) 21:38, 18 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

"Hey", you're undoing my edits again. How mature. I honestly think I do have a valid case for putting down instrumental rock. I already provided a source, which states "heavy metal" as a style. As everyone knows, heavy metal is rock at its core. Therefore, rather than put down plain old heavy metal (which is usually raucous and has vocals), instrumental rock covers it better and lets the audience know that the album is all-instrumental and entails a combination of jazz fusion and rock. Even the title—Truth in Shredding—suggests a rock-flavoured style, because shredding is generally considered a staple of instrumental rock. Let it be known at this point, however, that if you remove the instrumental rock genre again, I'll be letting Wikipedia staff know and they'll have to come and settle this for us. Since you're an anonymous user, this may be a bit difficult to resolve until you create a login. Friendly tip: try to participate in discussion here before undoing edits and changing things. There's no way we can hope to resolve this matter until you stop removing sourced information and discuss it in detail first. Let me know if you want to keep doing this—I'm very much willing to get Wikipedia staff involved if need be. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:56, 18 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Genres edit

When deciding on genres, do remember that Wikipedia does not apply its own interpretations to music. Genres are based upon on the ones under which the pieces of music (and/or the musicians) are recorded, published, distributed, and catalogued by the mainstream music press and quality web sites.--Kudpung (talk) 00:54, 20 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
