Proposed Changes

I made a series of changes that were recently reverted because they weren't discussed here first. Now I would like to discuss them.

The first changes were some minor revisions, like including of the pronunciation of the word "Trique." I happen to have worked with Trique people in Oaxaca, Mexico in the process of writing my dissertation and am a phonetician and linguist by training, so I wished to clarify this point.

The second set of changes were the inclusion of information on where Trique people live. I've spent numerous summers in the Trique region and am familiar with both the weather patterns and the geography of the region.

The third set of changes involved placing the dowry custom in context. I happen to be one of the consultants whom Jack Foley interviewed when he first wrote about this case in January (originally appearing in the Californian). CBS and Time and other news sources picked up the story later on and it received a lot of attention. I feel that the tone of the previous Trique page sheds a bad light on an entire culture. I wanted to put this in perspective. I thought little context was included in the previous entry. One reads about who the Trique people are, briefly, and then is bombarded with a recent news story which doesn't reflect the culture as a whole. Furthermore, I thought the tone of the last line "paid his bride's money with beer" sounds entirely crude compared to the custom as I am familiar with it: the husband pays the dowry which will include food and drink for the family. "Beer" does not have the same connotation in indigenous Mexican cultures as it does in the United States. One might state "I gave the family fine champagne." and this elicits an entirely different reaction than "I gave the family beer."

Thanks for proposing the changes here first. Although I agree with you in all aspect, but I am sure you also agree with me that we should not change anything without a reference and proof, because tomorrow, I can come here and say that I have certain experiences with this group of people and would like to make these changes and next week another person will disagree with me just because his/her experiences are different with me. But based on Wikipedia's rules, we should give references for what we say. So please, if you have a valid reference for your changes, go head with your changes and if not, try to look for references that supports your argument. I agree with your last comment in regard to the sentence; "paid his bride's money with beer", so feel free to edit it. Again, "reference" is a vital issue on Wikipedia. Therefore we should not change texts here and there just based on our experiences, what we know and have learned but we should let other readers know where we got it from. You might say, many of articles on Wikipedia do not have references, even many sentences on Trique article do not have references, and I agree with you, but I should add that texts that do not have reference will be removed eventually. By the way, if you are familliar with a new pronunciation of the word "Trique", please add it to the current pronunciation as: "The Trique or Triqui or ...". I forgot to mention this. Since this is in your field, so you know more than anybody else. If you know a reference for it, it is best to give one, but if you don't, it is always good to list all possible pronounciations.
