Movie is a glory? edit

"When the toy line was released, it was supported by a comic book series from Marvel, an animated series and a gamut of other merchandising tie-ins. The crowning glory to its achievement was a 1986 feature film even though it performed disappointingly." Why is it a "glory" if it was a failure? The hugely successful toyline made a lot of money as did the TV show in its first couple of seasons while the movie was a box office flop with a a mere $5,849,647 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092106/business). As of 1990, Transformers toys made almost $950 million (http://www.seibertron.com/infozone/articles/index.php?action=view&article_id=39), and I am certain that number is much, much higher today. In 1985 alone the toy line made Hasbro $333 million.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.176.49.45 (talkcontribs) 23:57, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree. I removed that glory bit. Listing how many toys were made in each time period, and how much money they made, would be a good addition to the article as well. Dream Focus 09:04, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

List of G1 edit

I know that there is already a list of Autobots and list of Decepticons pages, however I would like to know if anyone would be opposed to a Generation 1 list for this page which has both Autobots and Decepticons. It is a bit more compact and you can view it here Libro0 00:59, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

"UK" edit

Really, I hate whenever someone claims certain G1 toys are "UK" releases. So the toys available in stores in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and other European countries, often available in packaging sporting different languages (but otherwise identical to the toys released in the UK) are insignificant? Or is that because this is the English Wikipedia, and thus anything released in the UK is automatically considered the "main" version, and whatever came out elsewhere is a postscript? I'd much prefer call those "European" releases, rather than "UK" releases.--87.164.89.95 (talk) 18:23, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The people calling them "UK" releases are most likely Americans who are unaware of the existence of any other country in Europe than the UK. JIP | Talk 22:02, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Griffin Bacal edit

There's no mention of Griffin Bacal, an advertising agency working for Hasbro in the 1980s that played a major part in the creation of the toyline and its backstory just like Marvel did. Griffin Bacal also owned (?) Sunbow.--134.91.116.164 (talk) 10:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Actually lasted longer" edit

Transformers: Generation 1 (also known as Generation One or G1) was the original Transformers toy line that produced from 1984 to 1991 and actually lasted longer than the G1 1980s television series itself.

The television series was based on the toy line, not the other way around, no matter how much people have liked to think otherwise for the past quarter of a century. JIP | Talk 22:00, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unify references? edit

Forty-five of the fifty-two references on this article are to the exact same resource, only different pages. Should they be unified and the pages marked with the "rp" template? JIP | Talk 11:31, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have now unified the references. JIP | Talk 14:52, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal edit

I propose merging the article Transformers (toy line) to this article. Transformers (toy line) used to be an overview of the entire history of the Transformers toyline from its creation in 1984 to today, but a massive cull happened in November 2022 and the article essentially lost all content about anything other than the original Generation 1 toyline. It is now nothing but a quick and superficial overview of the Generation 1 toyline, while this article goes into detail. There is significant overlap between the two articles. JIP | Talk 19:58, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

The merge has now been done. JIP | Talk 14:55, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Article pictures need replacing edit

None of the pictures at the bottom of the article portray actual toys from the G1 line. Three of the photos in this article depict designs from the 2007 live-action movie and not G1, and should be removed. The pictures of the life-size Prowl 280ZX and Ratchet Vanette should be accurately labeled as actual cars decorated as the G1 characters in vehicle mode. The Wheeljack cosplayer should either be labeled as a cosplayer at a con, or removed. The article would be better served by pictures of the actual toy line.
