The picture at the top of this article is not representative of a "normal" car of this generation.

Connection between FWD sedan and RWD Coupe edit

What do these cars actually have in common? Seems like they are COMPLETELY different cars that just happen to all be called "Corolla". The AE86 RWD coupe may as well be a Supra compared to the FWD sedan Corolla. What possible connection do these cars have besides maybe the engines? Different body shells, different components. Speaking from experience (I owned an AE86 until recently, along with many other similar era Toyotas), the AE85/86 are basically the previous generation AE70 chassis with cosmetic updates. I took parts from wrecked AE70's to fix my AE86 - including the front suspension and rear axle. The FWD and RWD 80 series share engines, steering wheels and badges and practically nothing else of significance. However, since Toyota did name both of them as an 80 series Corolla and sold them at the same time, we don't really have a choice in the manner - they must both be represented here in some form. But we have also put a link in the intro section to Toyota AE85 and Toyota AE86 that go into a lot more detail about the RWD 80 series. Stepho talk 23:20, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
