The brief description is probably as simple and concise as it can be. But, it is quite accurate. I would equate it to trying to write a wiki on the lever. Brute force simple, been around probably since before language. So it would be very hard to get good references. It is a topic which is covered in several chapters of a structural engineering text book, with quite a bit of calculus level mathematics.
