In reference to the tire fire in westley: I was hoping to find a little more info on the Oxford recycling company that was responsible for the recycling and safe disposal of that particular tire pile. Research into spontaneous combustion of ground up tires contradicts the information this page about tires not being susceptible to spontaneous combustion. Many of the fire reports and "cause of fire" statements in the "Notable tire fires" section of this page are not sourced or lead to sources that don't come to the conclusion put forward within the page. For example, the statement that, during the 1999 Westley, California fire, pyrolitic oil flowed into a stream where it then ignited into a fire has no source of reference. The statement in respect to the August 18, 2015 fire in Oregon states that "the blaze was caused by the sparks formed from a recreational vehicle driving on a bare rim". The source referred to in support of that statement, at footnote #20, is a transcript from an August 19, 2015 NPR broadcast in which it is said that "it is believed" that a vehicle driving on a bare rim created sparks that caused a fire. No witnesses or evidence are identified or described in the transcript to support the conclusion that a spark from a vehicle's tire caused any fire, much less the one that burned 60,000 acres of the Warm Springs Reservation. After a brief Google search I noted that a lawsuit was reported to have been initiated by The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs against John Deere Company and others in which the cause of the fire was not alleged to have been caused by a vehicle being driven on a bare rim Jsgm77 (talk) 04:45, 27 February 2021 (UTC)jsgm

Although, hasn't it been extinguished several times only to be seen burning away again in later episodes? I seem to recall it's even been plowed into a sinkhole and buried underneath the street. The_Iconoclast (talk) 12:28, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
