Cause of Death? edit

The article does not mention how O'Neill died, a glaring omission. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.44.133 (talk) 22:32, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Untitled edit

Something made me think the wording of Mr. O'Neill's opinion of Mr. Reagan was rather odd for a Wikipedia entry, even though I thought it was an accurate description of his feelings. Googling some of the key terms, I found much of this entry has been lifted wholesale from the NY Times' obituary for Mr. O'Neill. Opusaug 23:31, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lecture edit

I am not sure, but I think I heard of something called the "Tip O'Neill Lecture". I don't know what it is exactly - any ideas? Of course, I may have imagined it but if someone found that it did exist, would it be good to add it to the article? Paddyman1989 00:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wasn't it Tip O'Neill who first called Social Security a "third rail" issue in American politics? ydesai2008 20:28, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why is a discussion of the grassy knoll theory included in the section entitle fast rise in the House. These have nothing to do with each other. Also, I don't know a great deal about his specific relation to this issue, but if the only information regarding it is that he had a meal with a Kennedy staffer it should be changed. 24.192.99.240 20:18, 9 May 2007 (UTC)AdamReply

Hardball reference edit

"In the Book Hardball by Chris Matthews Tip O'Neill is used about as frequently as the word "the"." Although this is pretty accurate and funny. I think it should be worked in the article better.

Kennedy Theories edit

O'Neill's involvement in the Kennedy issue (O'Donnell, etc) is not significant for O'Neill. I'm therefore removing the information. Perhaps it has a place in the O'Donnell entry, or on a page discussing Kennedy assassination theories. Gabrielthursday 12:26, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Amiable Drunk? edit

In the section about how he was at odds with President Reagan I tried to delete this phrase "This was an interesting comment for a man who was an amiable drunk" because it seems unnecessary. Perhaps it might be interesting to include this as the common retort to him calling Reagan an "amiable dunce" but the way it stands right now it just seems like an ancient political barb referring to a long dead fight between two dead politicians. Is there a way to address this fight like how old political rivals have usually been portrayed? Quixoto (talk)

All politics is local edit

Tip authored a book by this name [http://www.amazon.com/All-Politics-Local-Other-Rules/dp/1558504702] I think we should mention it. 216.153.214.89 (talk) 18:56, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

This quote is possibly misattributed to O'Neill. See q:Talk:Tip_O'Neill#All_politics_is_local_misattributed. Mathglot (talk) 01:58, 11 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Embarking on extensive rewrite edit

This long article cites 3 sources only and has a lot of rather controversial statements. I'll try to provide substantiation on the most relevant ones, but some of the rather outrageous claims (however "true" will have to go until citations can be found).Bali ultimate (talk) 17:53, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

No Citations for O'Neill's statements to Carter? edit

That and no citations to back up O'Neill's expensive tastes and expectations from the Carter Administration. I am just saying that any can write anything without an ounce of evidence to support it. 99.6.4.126 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:40, 10 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
