The result of the move request was merge the disambiguation pages. So... If I understand correctly, the original proposal was to move Timothy White to Timothy White (editor), and make Timothy White a disambiguation page. This was already done by Una Smith. I've now merged the Tim White disambiguation page into Timothy White. Jafeluv (talk) 09:57, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Timothy White (photographer)Timothy White — There are two famous Timothy Whites: one was the late editor of Billboard, and the other is the living photographer known for his celebrity portraits, which have been published in several books. Possible to create a disambiguation page that shows both of them when someone searches on "Timothy White"? KristinaFeliciano (talk) 15:22, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unless this proposal is being closed early despite opposition, the move should not have been done in the middle of discussion. It confuses the discussion for anyone just coming to this page, breaks the 50+ incoming links to Timothy White, and requires an admin to restore the status quo if there is no consensus to move. (There's already a dab page at Tim White.) Station1 (talk) 03:53, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
What the OP actually wanted done did not require admin intervention so did not need to go through WP:RM. It is true that links to Timothy White need to be fixed so that they go to the correct article; that is what Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links is for, but anyone can fix them. --Una Smith (talk) 18:05, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Not all proposals at WP:RM necessarily require admin intervention. However once listed, they should generally run their course, especially if controversial. Why not discuss the proposal before taking action? Station1 (talk) 08:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  1. Some of the people named Tim White are likely also to be referred to (correctly or otherwise) as Timothy White. It's not unlikely that one, two or three of those that WP calls Timothy White are also called Tim White.
  2. This particular Timothy Wright was described peacockishly till just now when I removed the worst. A number of the claims in the article are unsourced or dodgily sourced (e.g. from people making money from the sale of his photos). While I'm convinced that he merits an article, I'm not convinced that he's significantly more noteworthy or famous than the other contenders.
  3. Timothy Wright's was long a household name in the south of England and the name lives on.

I therefore suggest that Tim White should redirect to Timothy White, which should be a disambiguation page; and that this man should remain Timothy White (photographer). -- Hoary (talk) 08:08, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

In other words, merge the two disambiguation pages? That sounds like a good idea. --Una Smith (talk) 18:05, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
But that's exactly how it was before you changed it! There was one dab page at Tim White listing everything[1] and a hatnote on Timothy White pointing there. Station1 (talk) 08:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, what I suggest is most unlike that older version, which links to "Timothy White" about a single Timothy White. Again: "Tim Wright" would redirect to "Timothy White". "Timothy White" would be a disambig page with bluelinks to a pile of Tim(othy) Whites. -- Hoary (talk) 08:57, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I understand, but Tim White was a dab page anyway because there are three Tim Whites, whereas Timothy White does have a primary usage between the two articles on WP. We can have a dab page without having to move the journalist away from his name. Hatnotes solve any confusion between Tim and Timothy. Station1 (talk) 09:21, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, no. The last time I looked, there were three discrete articles about "Timothy White (somethingorother)", not two. Further, there was a link to a new article about "Timothy Whites", which is often referred to as "Timothy White's" (e.g. here) and was set up by another Timothy White, who might well get his own article some day. -- Hoary (talk) 10:11, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, only two, this one about the photographer and the one moved in the middle of this discussion to Timothy White (editor). The other three are all "Tim White (xxx)". (There's a misleading redirect just put on the dab page.) I saw the new Timothy Whites but that name doesn't conflict with Timothy White either, and like Tim White is best handled with hatnotes, directly or to a dab page. If another Timothy White comes along in the future, making the journalist no longer primary, we can move things then. Station1 (talk) 10:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well well, you're right about the anthropologist. (Incidentally, I note that he refers to himself as "Tim D. White".) Sorry about that mistake of mine. -- Hoary (talk) 10:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Not at all. It took me some digging too to figure out who was who. Station1 (talk) 10:49, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • I've totally lost track of what was proposed, what changed since then, and other proposals that have arisen. So I'll just state my thoughts:
    • Support Timothy White as disambiguation. I don't see evidence of a primary topic, and that allows editors to adjust links pointing to that page to make sure they actually target the right person of this name.
    • Support for merging the Tim White disambiguation page into it (with redirect). It's a common nickname and having a unified list avoids readers having to know whether a person has a proper name or goes as nickname, etc.

Source for ACLU work edit

Moved out this line from Awards for lack of a reliable source: He has also been honored for his pro bono work for the ACLU. This source has couple of photos by Timothy White, and says they were for an ACLU campaign "Scrapbook for Freedom". Jay 💬 16:58, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Source for Playboy edit

Removed the mention of Playboy for lack of a reliable source. In this interview White talks about his experience for Playboy, and how he shot Carol Alt. The Dec 2008 issue at Amazon has the credits, but is a primary source. Jay 💬 17:00, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
