2006 record claim edit

I have changed the claim that the record is for around the British Isles as the route does not include Orkneys, Shetlands or the Channel Islands. The actual route is around Great Britain and Ireland. Bjmullan (talk) 17:08, 30 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi BJM, I'm thinking of reverting this according to BRD. His own website states British Isles, although in French, but see [1]. There are also many online sources stating British Isles and I've yet to see anywhere that clearly defines what "around the British Isles" actually means. In the absence of such a verifiable and widely accepted definition I believe we should reconsider your edit. Van Speijk (talk) 20:28, 30 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just did a bit of research and found the official records website here. The official name for the record held by Coville is "Around Britain and Ireland, Non stop singlehanded". You can also see the route here which shows that it does include the Shetlands but not CI. I think we stick with the official title. Bjmullan (talk) 15:26, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
You do make laugh sometimes, BJM! To state that because he didn't go round the Channel Islands means we can't use the term British Isles is verging on idiocy. His own website uses the term British Isles, as do the three quality references I've added. To use your reference would be synthesis because it does not relate to Coville. I've corrected the article. I wish I could say that SPA make me laugh but they don't. If you look at the section heading it's say Records and attempts. There is no such thing as around BI record I have linked to the official record site above. This is like saying Seb Vettel is F1 European and RoW Champion rather than World Champion. I have reverted you and added a reference to this official record. Bjmullan (talk) 16:41, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I prefer to go with what Colville himself says. Furthermore, the pov which replaces BI with B&I leads to ambiguity: what is Britain and Ireland? Does it include certain outlying islands or not? The statement is now clear, British Isles (CI excluded). Van Speijk (talk) 16:55, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure that's what you prefer but WP prefers 3rd party sources and as this is an encyclopaedia I think the official title of the record is what should be used rather than your POV. But I'm not getting into an edit war with a BI POV pushing SPA, when I get the time I will take this further via another channel. Bjmullan (talk) 18:00, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Will you please stop doing and undoing ? This is becoming ridiculous. The WSSRC says "Britain and Ireland", it is the only official reference, we should stick on it.Prokofiev2 (talk) 13:10, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. And the record is no longer held by Coville as Peyron broke the record last year. --HighKing (talk) 11:51, 28 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
