Notes The working title for this short was "Tom Thump". Most Tom and Jerry cartoons during the Jones era were animated by Thompson, Washam, Towsley, Harris, and Tom Ray. However, Tom Ray is not credited on this short. The other mouse is grey, but in no other way resembles Tuffy who only appeared in the shorts directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. In this short Jerry and his nameless friend behave much like Jones' other famous mouse duo Hubie and Bertie (right down to their fur color), and Tom is a stand-in for beleaguered Claude Cat. In fact, much of The Year of the Mouse's plot is similar to that of Jones' 1948 Warner Bros. cartoon Mouse Wreckers, which shares the same writer, layout artist (who is a co-director here), and two of the animators on Mouse Wreckers. This is one of thirteen cartoons where Tom triumphs. The others are The Million Dollar Cat, The Bodyguard, Jerry's Diary, Nit-Witty Kitty, Hic-cup Pup, Little School Mouse, Southbound Duckling, Mouse for Sale, Timid Tabby, The Vanishing Duck, Duel Personality, and Love Me, Love My Mouse. this is unsorced trivia--Inxroad (talk) 15:16, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
