Movies edit

nowhere in this artical is it mentioned that several of these books have been turned into movies. to find out this information, a reader would need to go to the individual articals on each movie, and read carefully. this artical would benefit from this addition.--Whiteknight 06:50, 24 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

So what's the problem? Why do you even have to consult with us on the talk page? I say, be bold.

Merging? edit

Hi all,

So this page contains summaries of all of the books in the series... but there are also links to individual pages about individual books that contain (different, as far as I can tell) summaries of the books. What do people think about merging the summaries from this page into the summaries on individual book pages? (I know, "be bold," but since this would be a relatively major edit I wanted to see if anyone had a good reason to be strongly against it before moving forward.) I'll give it a few days for comments and then go ahead and start making changes if no one objects.

My vote is vehemently in favor of this proposal. There's no logical reason to have one set of summaries on this page, and then another set on the individual book pages, that's just messy. If you're willing to do such a major edit, I say do it. =) - Vaelor 07:24, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've been working on it sporadically. More than halfway done now! :) Hbackman 22:55, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think it makes the most sense to have the pages merged, as suggested. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.93.137.147 (talkcontribs) 26 April 2006 (UTC)
My vote is vehemently not in favor of this proposal. I think that a brief summary of each book on the Vampire Chronicles page is a good idea, and helpful. The summaries on each of the separate book pages are long, detailed, and contiain massive spoilers. On this page, they seem more like back-of-the-book summaries, which is helpful for those readers who are interested in learning about the Chronicles but not spoiling the books. PantherFoxie 17:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
The summaries here are also horribly non-encyclopedic praising the novels and the author. I've attempted to remove some of this non-point-of-view but it is far from complete. Jeff schiller 12:55, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
My vote is not in favor of this proposal. I quite agree with PantherFoxie; the summaries are more compact and certainly much more helpful to readers who want just a basic idea of the books. The goal of an encycolpedia isn't just to give you links to where you can find information. But still Jeff Schiller is right in that it needs some POV cleaning up. LestatdeLioncourt 13:58, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I favor summarizing generic aspects of The Vampire Chronicles, i.e. the Vampiric Powers section on The Queen of the Damned page, the major characters of The Vampire Chronicles, the timeline and history of The Vampire Chronicles, etc. However, each book should continue to have its own page, providing a summary of that particular story, characters and themes appearing in that book, actors and actresses portraying roles in the movie version, etc. FeralDruid 19:46, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Strong Disagree Don't merge them. That would reveal several spoilers, besides this page would become huge. Disagree with the merge. xCentaur | 11:51, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Featured? edit

Hey I just got this crazy idea... maybe not so crazy, but anyways, I think this article is very good, and really could stand a chance as a Featured Article after some cleaning up. What do you think? LestatdeLioncourt 14:09, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Has anyone seen the movie Queen Of The Damned? edit

They diviated (is my spelling wrong?)from the book quite a bit. The movie had Marius as Lestat's maker when it was really Magnus and Leatat didn't meet Marius until 10 years after he became a vampire. And what was up with the whole Jesse/Lestat romance thingy in the movie, in the book he only met Jesse once at the concert and then after she became a vampire when him and Akasha reunited with the rest of them at Maharet's place. It was still a great movie though. I am currently listening to the Queen Of The Damned soundtrack as I type,lol.Why wasn't Mekare mentioned at all in the movie? I hope to see more movies on the Chronicles.(I don't think there are but is there any other movies on the chronicles other then Interview With The Vampire and Queen Of The Damned)Does anyone know where I can get the book Blood and Gold? been looking all over.

This entire page plagiarized from Anne Rice's web site? edit

The Vampire Chronicles appeared on my watchlist recently, as having been updated. In reviewing the change, I realized the descriptions of the books in the wiki are taken, word for word, from the descriptions given on Anne's web site. For example, compare the The Vampire Chronicles#Memnoch the Devil entry with the Memnoch page on Anne's site. Question: Isn't this a violation of the copyright posted at the bottom of each page on her web site, and therefore a violation of Wikipedia policies regarding the posting of copyrighted material? FeralDruid 11:27, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Most definitely so. All copyvio material must be deleted on sight. —LestatdeLioncourt 17:58, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Delete it then, why ask for a discussion when the evidence is so clearly in favour of a delete. I wish we could delete Rice's decision to become a religous nutter and fill her books with religous bullshit but whatever. Delete it all, it's just Christian gothic cliches from the 19th century. I can't believe I studied this in a University Gothic Literature class, it's nothing but born again Christian propaganda. 124.186.236.114 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 16:50, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Celerity? edit

Does anyone remember the term 'celerity' being used at all in The Vampire Chronicles? I know the term comes from Vampire: The Masquerade, I don't remember Anne Rice using the term in any of her books. I wonder if other editors are getting the two confused. Killing gift edit

I read "This power was originally combined with the Fire Gift in Queen of The Damned, but by Blood & Gold Rice had decided the two powers should be made separate abilities. The exact nature of the power is unknown, but it seems to cause numerous fatal ruptures in the entire cardiovascular system." Which is somehow true, but instead of citing blood and gold, I'd say the "killing gift", imagined as cardiovascular breakdowns as an idea came earlier, in the Mayfair trilogy, as the power of rowan mayfair ? OVERHAUL - JUNE 13 2007 edit

Oi, where do I even frickin' begin? For starters, I've removed all the book synopses; with the links on the page, not only would there be no use for them even if they were original, but whoever posted them ripped them right off of Anne's site. I went through and heavily edited all the basic page and all the power descriptions, taking out reams of prose that was so goth-tinged I felt like I was in Hot Topic just reading it. I also added links/details of the movies in the opening paragraph, and I will be monitoring this page closely in the future. If anyone who reads this wants to work on it, remember these things:
1 - When each novel has its own page, having summaries of them on this page is unneccessary;
2 - Try to get your spelling/grammar correct;
3 - Stop burning incense, open the drapes, and turn off the Type O Negative while you write. Please;
4 - and "Encylopedic" on this site means "impartial", not "containing everything."
That is all! DiScOrD tHe LuNaTiC 18:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Rice-interview with vampire.png edit

The image Image:Rice-interview with vampire.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Order of reading?? edit

These books look interesting, i was wondering though in which order i would have to read them? 62.30.54.79 (talk) 20:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm agree with this. A time line is missing. For example, the New Tales of the Vampires are not following the Chronicles time line but are part of it. Pandora is between Memnoch and Armand. I don't know yet when Vittorio is to be read. It could seem that Chronicles got to be read in there writing order. I have just reached the part where New Tales and Mayfair join in and I'm a little confused too. A books time line and a story events time line would be appreciated. Fire Gift edit

Ummm, this needs to be edited. It can be used on unchanged humans, Lestat kills at least two gun men with it in Blood Canticle, setting them on fire with his mind, and even threatens another character in the book to be burned to ashes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.127.181.13 (talk) 07:17, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

LGBT? edit

How is this series LGBT? moocowsruletalk to moo 20:29, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Letsat has several love affairs with lead male characters. While the relationships are nonsexual great length is taken to explain the lack of sexual ability by vampires. Some very detailed descriptions are made about the male anatomy in one novel in relationship to the erotic but sexless relationship between Lestat and his lovers/companions. Are you reading Twilight of The vampire Chronicles? LOL! Just kidding.--Amadscientist (talk) 23:11, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Notably, in Pandora, the titular character asks another vampire to put his penis in her vagina, very soon after becoming a vampire herself.--99.240.13.109 (talk) 12:07, 2 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Totally inadequate edit

Very strange article. Consists of what should make up articles "Vampire (Vampire Chronicles)", and "List of Vampire Chronicles characters", and barring the header none of the information about development, publication, reception, etc. that should be in the article of one of the world's most notable series of novels. I don't know enough about it to work on it myself, it's been a long time since I've read them and I didn't read all of them. I came to fill in holes, and read about how they developed from a secular work by an atheist to Biblical fantasy by a devout Christian. -- AvatarMN (talk) 16:08, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
