Right of center? edit

What exactly are we basing this claim on?

There's a local joke around Tampa Bay which refers to the Tampa Ministry of Truth (Tampa Tribune) and the St Petersburg Daily Worker (St Pete Times). Though both papers are more centrist than extreme, the Tribune definitely leans to the right and the Times leans to the left.

Inappropriate Reference to St. Petersburg Times edit

I am a former publisher of The Tampa Tribune, so my bias should be clear. That's why I'm suggesting this on the talk page instead of simply editing the article.

This article is about The Tampa Tribune. The fact that a nearby newspaper is larger is barely relevant, and certainly not worth mention in the initial sentence of the article. In fact, there are six ABC-audited daily newspapers in the Tampa-St. Petersburg DMA and each of them dominates circulation and readership in its home county. In Hillsborough County, which contains Tampa, for example, The St. Petersburg Times' audited circulation is 46,668 Sunday and 32,506 daily, while The Tampa Tribune's is 188,474 Sunday and 143,967 daily. (ABC Audit reports for calendar 2006.)

The opening of this article is objectionable because it reflects a bias toward the commercial interests of The St. Petersburg Times. The Times attempts to persuade advertisers that because its circulation is greatest in a large area, it's the leading advertising vehicle in the same large area. In fact, readership patterns are not at all homogenous.

It would be more appropriate in such a short article to omit the reference to The St. Petersburg Times. ReidAshe (talk) 17:19, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Technically, the lede sentence is correct, and it is sourced, so I hesitate to make the change you suggest on my own. I will support such a change, but want to hear from other involved editors. -- Donald Albury 13:05, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wrong founder edit

The article links to Wallace O. Stovall born in 1891 as the publisher of the tribune in 1895. I'm pretty sure this is meant to be is father Wallace F. Stovall who doesn't have an article yet but should.
