Etymology edit

Any objections if I re-write the un-referenced Etymology section? The etymology given in Ekwall's Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Place-Names (4th ed.) and Mills, A.D.'s Dictionary of English Place-Names (2nd ed.), both published by OUP, is very different to that currently given in the article. Ekwall's version is "swirling, rushing river", and Mills' is "rushing river" - though Mills' simplified version (in a simplified book) is probably following Ekwall. Also, I would normally expect to find the etymology either in the article's introduction/lead or, more often, in a section on "History" - in this case, I would suggest removing the section "Etymology", and merging the info into the "Geography" section. For that matter, the Geography section could be re-named "History", since that is what it seems mainly to deal with - your view may differ, etc.! Cheers. I've now done as I proposed above, in the absence of any intervening comments from other editors. Nortonius (talk) 21:28, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
