An extrect of the poem The Sons of Martha was introduced in about 1926 into the first full-length novel by Nevil Shute (Norway), called Marazan. This name, incidently is a sound or lagoon in the Scilly Islands, a small part of the UK off the coast of Cornwell.
The extract is:
It is their care in all the ages/ To take the buffet and cushion the shock/ It is their care that the gear engages/ It is their care that the switches lock.
Sounds a bit like landing-gear engineering!

I forgot to add that on the Albert Memorial (to prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria) in South Kensington London, there are a number of statuettes each designating one particular kind of artist or craftsman, but the one that is missing is that of the engineer. Film/ Mabel Russell edit
Help needed please,
We're currently re-writing an article regarding Mabel Russell and have seen that she acted in the 1907 film Sons of Martha. I linked it to this page but now I'm not sure if it's based on this poem/subject. [1]. Can anyone offer suggestions if the film is linked to this article?
