Plot Summaries, Publishing History, Reactions

I'm going to slowly start moving in short summaries -- perhaps just one or two sentences -- of each story. Longer assessments/summaries of the stories can likely be their own entries (such as those for Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. There should also be a bit of background on Irving's work in writing, publishing (first self-publishing, then going with John Murray, at Walter Scott's request), and promotion of the book, as well as its reception in the UK and USA.--Federalistpapers (talk) 15:27, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I've made a start at this, on the publishing history, particularly the American and UK publishing schedules. While these sections contain a summary of each piece, I'd still like to have a brief summary of each story in the "Contents" section up higher. The information on English Volume 2 is unclear. It's hard to tell if the the new sketches were put in roughly their current position or just tagged on at the end like an eight installment.

Organization?

Two suggestions for additions: (1) Did C. S. Van Winkle publish a hardcover edition after the serialized version was completed? In other words, who published the first hardcover edition in the U.S.? (2) There are probably some nice public domain illustrations from 19th-century and early 20th-century editions of The Sketch Book that would brighten the article. Otherwise, you're doing a fine job so far. If it encourages more people to read this book, all the better. — Walloon (talk) 15:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Reading through it again, I'm not certain that the table -- with its references to first and second American installments and so on -- belongs at the top, where those terms have no relevancy. Perhaps the contents should follow the "Publication History"? I'm going to move it there and see how it looks -- feel free to revert if it seems clumsy.--Federalistpapers (talk) 16:59, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
