GA Reassessment

As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles' Project quality task force, I am re-reviewing this article to ensure compliance with current good article criteria. I have determined that it doesn't meet criteria for the reasons outlined below and needs a bit of work if it is to retain its status.

• The plot has a cleanup tag, and for good reason: it is wayyy too long and well-nigh incomprehensible to the layman. We're talking a huge cut and restructure is necessary.
• Swaths of "Comparison with the source material" are unreferenced and smack of original research. Need reliable citations, or cut the section down.
• More unsourced statements and {{cn}} tags throughout the article.
• The production section is a bit hard to understand. I think it needs a bit more of a lead-in describing how the films came to be. There's also an issue with accessibility in that lots of locations, names and terms are not introduced earlier or are lost in the plot soup mentioned above.
• Only one paragraph of critic's opinions? There's plenty more than that, even on the internet.
• The final paragraph of "Box office" is entirely unsourced, seems POV/weasel word-filled.
• The latter parts of the article are especially unsourced, in particular "Additional scenes".
• Images: There isn't an excessive use of non-free images, per se, but the ones that are used don't appear to meet WP:NFCC: File:Rotkcombined.JPG, File:MinasTirithbacklot.jpg, File:Annatar.jpg.
