Merge

User:Steerpike added a merge notice to this page, as well as Lone gunmen trio. I disagree with the proposal as they discuss two separate things. This page is for the television show depicting the same three characters; although the other page solely is about the same three characters in the contect of The X-Files show. — THOR ^=/\= 15:30, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

I was categorizing X-Files articles when I came across these two pages. They seem to exist almost independent from each other. I think it would be interesting if "The Lone Gunmen"" starts by describing the characters as in "Lone gunmen trio" and then moves on to "The Show". If not then at least remove "Appearance on the X-files" (or remove the stub note) and reference to the "Lone gunmen trio" page. --Steerpike 11:47, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

It should be noted that the trio article is in need of some light copyediting before a merge ever happens, if it even does. It is also of note to mention that the trio article contains information that could be removed and ported into the Lone Gunmen article, since it is geared more toward the show than simply the characters. The trio article can stand alone as a character page for the three, if it could seemingly focus on the characters themselves and not more so on their series or television appearances. 4.224.165.79 18:37, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

There are separate articles for characters from X-files and the actual series. Due to the fact the Lone Gunmen are characters first from that show and then spun-off for their own, maintain the seprate article satus. That said, a little background on the characters in this article is needed. Paleok

Merge. Both articles are about the same thing, a group of people. Keeping two separate articles would indirectly mean, for instance, that the Area 51 article would have to be split into one article about the real geographical Area 51, and one article about the UFO mythology around Area 51. Oppose. I'm currently working on expanding the articles about the X-Files universe, particularly characters, and there should be two separate articles. One should have info on the show Lone Gunmen, and the other on the characters itself. Both have enough info for an article, and I'll be doing an expansion of the character one. However, I believe that the article about the characters should be called The Lone Gunmen, and about the show The Lone Gunmen (TV series). Solver 23:14, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Oppose

Per earlier commentators, the articles discuss two separate issues. This one relates to a series wirrten around the three characters, but also expanding their mythos substantially, not least in the area of Yves Adele -- does she exist in the main-stream X-Files universe. The other has to do with the three characters as they interact with the main-stream X-F universe. I would argue that, given bioth are fictives, it would be entirely credible to accept the X-Files versions whilst resolutely refusing to believe in the characters as poutlined in the Lone Gunmen series. --Simon Cursitor 09:00, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion, the article about the characters should contain information about them from both shows, but the show itself also can have its own page. The above is just as silly as saying that Miles O'Brien and Worf should have separate articles for their Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine appearances or Denny Crane and Alan Shore for their The Practice and Boston Legal appearances. Pilot episode's connection to 9/11

The flight in the pilot episode was scheduled to arrive at, not depart from, Boston. It probably departed from Washington, which is where the Lone Gunmen are based. I've changed the reference from "departing from Boston" to "headed for Boston", but it would probably make more sense to delete the reference altogether, since none of the 9/11 planes were headed for Boston. Controversy over Cancellation

FOX inexplicably decided to cancel The Lone Gunmen after only 13 episodes, even though the first season of The Lone Gunmen actually had better ratings than the first season of The X-Files. The cancellation of the well-rated Lone Gunmen has thus led to conspiracy theories that the Bush administration pulled strings with the Republican-friendly owner of FOX, Rupert Murdoch, to have The Lone Gunmen cancelled in order to have full control of the nation's emotions with no questions asked, because the Administration was actually aware of the plots to attack The Towers and Pentagon before September 11 yet had wanted them to happen, just as people have long argued that FDR willingly let the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor because he wanted it to happen in order to get into the War.

Conversely, others blame the cancellation on the changing landscape of network TV. Where once networks gave shows time to build a following, now shows are often axed immediately unless they're big hits. (In the case of the 2006 ABC show Emily's Reasons Why Not, the show was famously cancelled after just one episode aired.) All in the Family, Cheers and Seinfeld are all shows that started small and built their audiences, and all of them would probably be cancelled if they were new shows today. It should also be pointed out that The Lone Gunmen aired on Fox on Friday nights, the slot where one genre series after another, including several from Lone Gunmen and X-Files creator Chris Carter, have all had brief runs. What's more, Carter's relationship with Fox had soured by this point, and the network clearly had little affection for this show or Carter's other series Millennium or Harsh Realm (the latter was axed before its first season was completed, with several episodes still unaired.) Some have seen the abrupt and tragic deaths of the Gunmen on The X-Files as Carter's statement about Fox's treatment of The Lone Gunmen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.185.57.48 (talk • contribs)

Were the two paragraphs removed from the article? Was this placed here on the talk page for some reason, given that the anonymous editor who placed it here made no comment whatsoever? The tone is inappropriate for the article, but simply copying and pasting it here with no comment is not terribly helpful. ---Charles 05:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Episode Guide

Can somebody take the time to write out brief summaries for the episodes? I don't have time at the moment to watch the whole show. I might do that later though. But if anybody can do this ASAP then I'd greatly appreciate it. I-baLL 19:29, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help.
