"Exxon (now Exxon/Mobil), along with most petroleum corporations, become water purification corporations after a supposed oil crash in the early 21st century." - What does this have to do with the article? 84.55.83.49 19:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Haven't read the book and know nothing about the subject article (having come from Teleportation), but it sounds to me like this oil crash, and the subsequent change to the company, happens solely in the book. Yes? 88.110.18.221 19:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Doh. Misread.84.55.83.49 13:35, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I thought it was Texaco that was mentioned in the story, and the father worked for them and that's why he was jaunting to Mars.

Pedantic edit

Just a stupid little correction, but shouldn't the first mention of The Jaunt be in both bold and italics? Ignore me

Jaunting edit

Obviously Jaunt should be capitalized but does "jaunting" really need to be capitalized to? It's a verb... -WarthogDemon 02:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm like 80% sure that the dead wife was pushed through a portal while conscious, when there was no corresponding receiving portal active. The suggestion in narration was that her atoms had been dispersed, resulting in her immediate death. The way it's described in the article, she experienced the eternity effect, but as I understand the story, the eternity effect comes from the transportation of the "non-particulate consciousness." But if no transportation occurred, walking into a sending portal would just be painless, instantaneous death, from the immediate cessation of all brain activity.71.191.46.146 (talk) 07:54, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

So if she was finally let out an active terminal, would she be returning from the dead? ArdClose (talk) 13:19, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
The short story itself explicitly states the possibility that (in this story's fictional universe) the wife could still be alive, with her consciousness "out there". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.52.124.254 (talk) 18:29, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Should there be a mention of 'The Stars My Destination' in the article somewhere..? It's mentioned in the story IIRC as the origin of the term 'Jaunting', and it might send an inquisitive Wiki reader on to a classic book that should be read :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.172.109 (talk) 00:22, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Emesis Blue edit

There seems to be a persistent restoration of a popular culture section mentioning a YouTube film known as Emesis Blue. Unfortunately I can't see the addition of a section like that to be helpful to the article, as it reads like it was written by a fan of the series, alongside the fact that it's the only entry in said section. If anyone else wants to discuss this (we really should considering there's an edit war going on) then feel free. Deauthorized. (talk) 17:43, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I completely agree. Anybody who wants add this non-notable fan-film to this article will need to find a third party reliable source which talks about it, per WP:IPC (and many others). Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 19:46, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Agreed; no indication that this is a notable video. ... discospinster talk 20:38, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I believe it should be mentioned in some way because the film takes a lot of inspiration from the story and adapts it into another universe and story. I know practically nothing about making Wikipedia articles so if someone could explain why this shouldn't happen I'll take it into consideration for my own judgment on the situation. 172.58.127.77 (talk) 20:43, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I can't edit so I'll just reply to myself. Emesis Blue is an important film in the Team Fortess 2 community and has made a big impact on the members. 172.58.127.77 (talk) 20:45, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
172.58.127.77, are there reliable third party sources to support inclusion? If not, then it fails notability and shouldn't be added. Chaheel Riens (talk) 21:00, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
