Naming edit

I just wanted to express my openness for other suggestions on how to name this article. I created "The Green (Dartmouth College)" after a quick decision of what the best options were, but there really isn't any single best name.

  • The Green is already used as a disambiguation page, so I added "(Dartmouth College)" to disambiguate it. Among students (of which I am one) and I think the community at large, "the Green" is its standard name.
  • It is, however, officially known as The College Green, as stated in the article. Given the relatively unused nature of that name, I figured it was best to go with the more common one; also, the title wouldn't say which college it belonged to.
  • It is sometimes known as The Dartmouth Green. However, the Dartmouth Big Green are sometimes referred to by the same name, so that could be confusing.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there. I've never been completely satisfied with "The Green (Dartmouth College)," so if anyone has a proposal for a better way to name is disambiguate it, I'd be happy to discuss it. Just wanted to drop that line. Kane5187 17:24, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notable edit

I fail to see how "a grass-covered field and common space" is notable. --andreasegde (talk) 14:14, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

A lot of green is spent in creating, maintaining, and discussing The Green. The substantial coverage it has received from rs makes it notable by wiki standards.Smallman12q (talk) 02:21, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. How does anyone think this is notable, much less FA material? And substantial coverage? Really? So how come all the references are to student newspapers and bits on college buildings that happen to mention the green in passing? Every village has a "grass-covered field and common space" and the minutes of the parish council will give it substantial coverage in RS; doesn't make it notable. (applause for commas) edit

I love that you guys used American-style punctuation (as opposed to British style) in an article on an American subject in which there was zero chance of commas-inside causing confusion. I can't wait for the MoS to lift that stupid ban. Darkfrog24 (talk) 02:03, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
