Talk:The Fray/A Disambiguation Page

Latest comment: 17 years ago by Danielfolsom in topic Proposed move

Comic Book

edit

Has the Fray(Band) become more popular than the Fray(comic)? Perhaps the disambig. page should be rerouted.

Whats the precedence? the earlier work? most searched work? most popular? (72.174.2.252 07:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC))Reply

Proposed move

edit

The Fray (band)The Fray — per Wikipedia:Disambiguation, an article that has significantly more usage than other similarly titled articles should be the primary topic. Almost all wikilinks for The Fray are intended for the band

Survey - in opposition to the move

edit

#Oppose - there are plent of famous titles that have to have the parenthesis (in this case, (band)) after them because there are multiple pages with the same name. While some pages use a different method (you may be refering to ...) - this article may not be more popular than the other options - and even then, I thnk that there's not enough of a reason for a move here. Linking shouldn't be a problem - all you have to do is type: The Fray(band) - you could do either: The Fray ([[The Fray (band)|The Fray]]) or, again, just [[The Fray (band)]].Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 21:34, 12 March 2007 (UTC) #: Not that many links are meant for this page - see Special:Whatlinkshere/Fray (the comic book - the last item and the disamb. page) and Special:Whatlinkshere/The_Fray_(band) - this page's. There's not that much of a difference at all! While a good number (probably meant for here) go to the disamb. page, it's still not huge enough I thinkDaniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 21:34, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

  1. Oppose while the band's popularity is certainly rising as a musical flavor of the mon th, Slate's forum is well known and has been around a lot longer. There is no evidence that the band is going to be more then an one album wonder and there is certainly no evidence that it is a primary topic over Slate's forum and the comic book series. Now if the band demonstrates any longevity then it might eventually and distinctly distinguish itself as Primary. But it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to soon for that. For all we know, they could be out of vogue by the summer. 205.157.110.11 22:22, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well - honestly if it was just between the forum and the band the band would have it easy - check out the differences in wikilinks (or even a google test - while the fray forum has more hits than the fray band, the fray forum pages are all dedicated to the music group.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 22:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

more Detailed Proposal

edit

Due to the overwhelming popularity discrepency (as proved by the google test) - I propose that we:

  1. Delete the Disamb. Page - replace with this article
  2. At the top have the typical 'You may be looking for the fray forum' line

  2. Support as I am the nominatorDaniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 22:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  3. Support as I am the nominator. Though it appears I didn't go about it the correct way, it was nonetheless nominated and I am in support. "The Fray" refers to The Fray the band and wikipedia should reflect that. When someone says The Fray, they are rarely referring to a short-lived comic series. 72.174.2.252 12:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Your suggest a different proposal, it's not that you went about it in the wrong way - it's just you had a few diff. details, but i will remove your proposal since obviously you support this one.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 15:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oppose

==Ok - since there have been no oppose votes I'll go ahead and do this.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 17:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It doesnt appear to have been done. was it reversed? If I knew how to do it, I would. 72.174.2.252 05:09, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's been done ... the disamb. page was deleted ...Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 05:56, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

it seems that only "the fray" has been moved. I assumed that the move was for "fray" as well, since nobody searches for "the" anything. they just type the word they are searching for, and in this case, fray should refer to fray (the band).

Just a note - please remember to sign your post. But I did not move "Fray" to "The Fray" - since the former is a popular comic book - before this page was "The Fray (band)" and "The Fray" was a disam. page.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 02:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
See the main conflict was whether the fray should compete with the fray (forum) - but really ... I mean the name of the band is "The Fray".Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 02:44, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
