Ok, i'm going to have to say that Rod Stewart's cover was the best of all the rest!

They've missed a band - Little Angels. mid 90's rock group. very good live, international.

Performers

On allmusic.com they say Gene Pitney performed the song first in 1966. I don't know anything about it though, maybe someone else does? nftaDaedalus 14:53, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Which two lines were cut?

I'm confused:

"While the Stevens, Arnold and Hampshire recordings sang this chorus intact, the Stewart and Crow renditions omitted the last two lines, an omission which might give the listener a different sense of the song."

The two lines of lyrics immediately prior to this text are "And I'm sure gonna give you a try… just remember, the first cut is the deepest." ("sure gonna give you a try" I distinctly remember from the Stewart version) So maybe "the last two lines" means the chorus as given earlier in the article "That's how I know, the first cut is the deepest." Again, I imagine remembering those, too, in the Stewart version.

So which "last two lines" is the article referring to? And is it accurate?
