Areas needing to be covered edit

There are a few things obviosuly missing from here yet, particularly in relation to the Millenium workover.

  • It's generally regarded (by pedestrians at least, if not drivers or office workers on Queens Square) that the remodelling was a failure. This is supported by the plans to rework it yet again (with money from goodness knows where) only a decade later.
  • The rework was compared particularly poorly with the much more popular Millennium Square, or the related improvements to Queens Square. Both of these were well received.
  • The "fountains" were an infamous failure.
  • Bristol has plenty of water in the centre, but little grass. So losing what little planting there was, was always to be regretted.

The article coould also cover rather more about the Frome, the buried stone bridge and the green pillar box. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:11, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree with most of what you say; the only thing I'd take issue with is that I seem to remember that the result of the 1996 consultation was that most people would have preferred re-opening the harbour - but I can't find a reference for it RedSquirrel (talk) 18:52, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
As I recall, the plan was initially (or was at least claimed to be so publically) to re-open the water, but the council then provided some fatuous excuse that no-one could find the pre-1920 plans of where the harbour walls were. For some inexplicable reason this then made the project unfeasible. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:58, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well I'd be happy to find any references for this, however they made their decision!RedSquirrel (talk) 19:06, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've added a fair bit to the 1998 workover; I'd like to find the 1997 report to the LSC to know for sure why they rejected the Dock Option, but that's for another day...RedSquirrel (talk) 23:38, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Naming of this article and Bristol city centre edit

I have started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Bristol#Bristol city centre v The Centre, Bristol about clarifying the naming of this article and Bristol city centre. If anyone has any ideas please contribute to the discussion.— Rod talk 21:03, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I think it's clear: The Centre is a discrete place, whilst Bristol city centre is an area. Buses usually go to The Centre, not Bristol city centre.
