POV: Label-written?

I disagree. The Blow is by no means an "unknown artist." Khaela Maricich has released 4 albums on K Records as the Blow, the most recent of which, "Paper Television," has garnered a good deal of press, most notably from the online music magazine Pitchfork. In fact, Pitchfork named their song, "Parentheses," from said album as one of the 100 Best Tracks of 2006. I didn't write or research this article, so I cannot produce citations, but I have noticed articles about the Blow popping up in print of late. Also, I'm sure that K Records would never use Wikipedia to advertise their artists. As a well-established indie label, there simply would be no need. --67.161.108.59 12:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure Pitchfork qualifies as "reliable" per the notability guidelines, as even the wikipedia article on the magazine notes that they favor "obscurity for obscurity's sake." Also, is K records that "major" of an indie label? They have only a couple of known artists, and seem to just be known in Seattle (google searches return just their websites and some blogs--no major media references). The article here on K is very rudimentary suggesting few people are following the label. As for a lot of press, "Paper Television" has a grand total of 6 hits on google news, and one isn't about the album. At any rate, the article needs to at least assert that the artist is notable, but all these suggest is that they are quite obscure. --69.231.112.202 19:48, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I live a hundred miles from Portland and know at least a a dozen and a half people who have a copy of Paper Television. And K Records is one of the largest record companies that is not traded publicly or owned by someone who is. Blamblamblam 01:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

K Records is most certainly a label of note... Started by Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening as chronicled in the book Our Band Could Be Your Life (which appears to be a reputable enough reference for articles on Black Flag, Sonic Youth, The Replacements etc. Wikipedia also has an entry dedicated to the book itself) and a favourite of Kurt Cobain who had a K Records tattoo. As for the the "notability" of Khaela Maricich / The Blow... I'll agree that she's not selling records on quite the scale of Britney Spears or Ashley Simpson... and the article could probably be re-written to have a "neutral point of view" but she's definitely popular within the underground... This is a very important development in current music, I feel sorry for the people with their heads in the sand who aren't familiar with K Records. I suppose that they've never heard of bands like Nirvana and Modest Mouse, not to mention The Microphones. Not to be grouchy, but this certainly is a "notable" entry, and quite informative. It's even linked to by Momus on his blog, http://imomus.livejournal.com/254596.html.

K is not a major indie label? The Blow is unknown? They are touring Europe with !!! They have close to 18,000 listeners on last.fm [2] and 15,000 fans on myspace [3]. That pretty much establishes that they're not obscure. This entry, however, is copied from the K records website. There should be a cleaned up entry on The Blow, and then Khaela Maricich can redirect there. Richard Zach 22:14, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

There seems to be some confusion between the NPOV dispute and the Notability dispute. There seems to be a consensus on notability. I would suggest that the notability guidelines say that the ARTICLE needs to assert the required elements of notability instead of the talk page, but I'm not going to fight these people who are reading the article because they already know who she is. i would rather have given it a chance to bubble up for a real review by others, but whatever.

However, this is unrelated to the NPOV dispute, which no one has discussed beyond one commenter saying "Yes, this was lifted from the label's website". Don't remove the NPOV (neutrality) dispute without consensus. --75.205.121.167 06:25, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake, obviously. I did get the two confused and didn't intend to remove the wrong dispute. (Part of it may have something to do with the fact that the two discussions are conflated here in one section of the talk page.) That said, it seems to follow the definition of "neutral": "representing views fairly, proportionately and without bias." It appears to be completely factual in content, but, yes, some of the text is directly lifted from the K Records website. It's neutral, but plagiarized and poorly cited, so, yeah, it needs to be rewritten. --gohlkus 19:21, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

PICA

Hello - I am a newbie, so excuse my ignorance, but I can't figure out how to edit one of the links in this article. Khaela was an artist-in-residence at The Portland Institute FOR Contemporary Art (not OF) and with the correct spelling, it should link to www.pica.org, where you can see that Khaela/The Blow performed on the TBA Festival alongside artists including Miranda July, Diamanda Galas, Antony and the Johnsons, etc. Not sure if that helps establish anything, but it would be swell if the PICA link worked!
