Talk:The Almanac Singers

Just saw this for the first time. Nice! What a large amount of nice research and work has gone into this article! Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 10:34, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Date of formation edit

When working at the folk music article, I found in a source that they were formed December 1940. It says slightly differently in this article in a couple of places, without sourcing. Eventually should get looked at. North8000 (talk) 11:41, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Was Woody really a "founder"? edit

This article states that Guthrie was one of the "founders" of the Almanac Singers. Yet he doesn't appear on their first album. Should a correction or clarification be made?

Is it possible that there is not really a definite beginning to this band? From the article, it sounds as if many of these folks played together in informal settings in late 1940 and early 1941, and eventually this informal group congealed into the Almanac Singers? If that's the case, and if Woody was involved in the informal pre-AS stage but not on their first album, then I don't think he can be called a founding member of the band. — Lawrence King (talk) 23:35, 1 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
