Main image is totally random edit

Teahupo'o waves are much more well known for surfing than kite surfing. I wonder why the main image is not a surfing one, that would make much more sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guilhermebellia (talkcontribs) 00:27, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

BLACKWATER: The Story of a Place Called Teahupo'o edit

There's a very good documentary about Teahupo'o's waves, it's called Blackwater. I think it would be cool to put the documentary as a reference about the spot as it covers the evolution of how surfers challanged the wave over time and about the place itself.

Pronunciation tip needed edit

This article needs a pronunciation tip with input from someone who knows the correct Tahitian pronunciation of this place name. –Newportm (talkcontribs) 13:42, 2 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's not Cho-po or Cho-poo as many people say it, even people from tahiti sometimes. It's te-a-hu-po-o, using standard polynesian vowels or Japanese vowels if you're familiar with those. Tay-ah-hoo-poe-oh for Americans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.80.192 (talk) 04:05, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Surfing Terminology edit

"Taerea attempted to duck-dive a dangerous 12-foot wave but was thrown over the falls, landing head first onto the reef."

Not sure what "duck-dive" means in this context, but I'm guessing you have to know something about surfing to understand this. In which case, it should probably be made easier to understand for a general audience. Bandanamerchant (talk) 23:27, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Death edit

Out of all the arrogant supremacist crap I have come across in Wikipedia, the notion that an article ostensibly about a village with a sizeable population has only ever seen one death takes the biscuit. Quite incredibly disrespectful and treating the lives of the local population as entirely insignificant. Deleting the section as an appalling indictment of Wikipedian, and too often Western, attitudes. Kevin McE (talk) 19:06, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have restored the section and renamed it Surfing deaths at Teahupo'o, since that is clearly what the section is about. Perhaps being less outraged would have enabled you to see this, and not remove relevant content. Silver hr (talk) 14:34, 2 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
