Example edit

Hello dear Juxlos, Thanks for your editing on the article. According to my knowledge on Wikipedia, It is allowed to include a preparation section in the article like this Dosa (food)#Preparation. How do you think?. Taung Tan (talk) 09:39, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is a reason that article did not get accepted into DYK, no? Not everything is up to standards but DYK means it is in the main page and therefore should follow the "standard" practice. Juxlos (talk) 11:00, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Talabaw soup
  • ... that the traditional soup Talabaw (pictured) is regarded as the national dish of the Karen people in Myanmar, where the soup is used as a rice complement by consuming a large amount of soup with a small amount of rice in order to conserve the rice? •   Hi @Taung Tan:, welcome to DYK. While the article is long enough and new enough, the current prose of the article reads like a recipe, which really isn't how stuff should be written on Wikipedia. Before further review, could you restructure the second section? I would argue that the entire "Method" part can be removed, and the "ingredients" part can be condensed to one sentence. Juxlos (talk) 15:35, 1 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Juxlos Thanks for your review. I've requested copyedit from my senior. pls kindly wait a few day. Thanks Taung Tan (talk) 16:03, 1 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Juxlos Fixed, pls kindly review now. Thanks Taung Tan (talk) 09:13, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I removed the step-by-step process per WP:NOTGUIDE. No copyvio, length just about sufficient, new enough. QPQ done, referencing is sufficient. Hook interesting enough (probably can be shorter, ALT1 is provided) and AGF on Burmese sources. Good to go. Juxlos (talk) 09:24, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Note to Dyk promoter, If possible... pls kindly use ALT0 with picture. The photo is my work. So I wanted to be proud of my work. Thanks Taung Tan (talk) 09:46, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ce req edit

Dear Ako Hybernator, Happy New Year! May this new year 2023 bless you and your loved ones with good health, wealth, and happiness. I would like to req Ce for Dyk process. Pls help me out. This article is very important for me. Taung Tan (talk) 07:46, 1 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Happy new year, Ko Taung Tan. Took a stab at ce'ing it. Thanks for writing the article. It's a favourite dish of mine. The version I'm familiar with uses fermented bamboo shoots, if my memory serves. Hybernator (talk) 22:19, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh, @Hybernator, I literally just asked the question below about that! Valereee (talk) 18:37, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

fermented? edit

Hey, @Taung Tan, I removed "fermented" because I didn't find it in the source, but is it correct that the ingredient is typically fermented rather than fresh? Valereee (talk) 18:36, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think it is lacto-fermented bamboo shoots or sour bamboo shoots, or pickled bamboo shoots. If OK, kindly combine with this version [1]. Thanks Taung Tan (talk) 18:45, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've added a bit more per that! LMK if you find a source for fermented. I think it's quite likely that depending on the season, there would be lactofermented shoots used when/if fresh aren't available? Does Myanmar have a season when bamboo stops growing? Valereee (talk) 18:58, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
The main thing is to cook with fresh bamboo shoots, but some use fermented bamboo shoots if fresh bamboo shoots are not available. Fermented bamboo shoots (မျှစ်ချဉ်) version is supported by the source. Taung Tan (talk) 19:28, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do we know that's a reliable source? I'm not sure I'm seeing evidence of editorial oversight? Valereee (talk) 19:34, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, My Food Myanmar is a digital outlet of Rfox Media. It is can be used as a reliable source. The BNI source stated that "Among the bamboos, the Karen use the giant bamboo shoots more." How should we fix this? Taung Tan (talk) 19:51, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Is that what is being machine translated as 'wo bo bamboo'? Valereee (talk) 19:58, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
'wo bo bamboo' is translated to giant bamboo in English. From June to October is the monsoon season in Myanmar. Bamboo stops growing in late Oct per [2]. Thanks for your amazing work on the article. Look pretty! Taung Tan (talk) 20:03, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
The article is completely perfect. Thanks for your nice work. Cheers. Taung Tan (talk) 15:48, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
And to you! I enjoy working on food articles. Valereee (talk) 16:04, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

List of Burmese dishes edit

I've been deorphaning. I don't know where this article would be added in this list? Valereee (talk) 14:03, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

yes sure! Should be added as Karen inspired section. Taung Tan (talk) 14:13, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Redirects edit

We should have redirects for every common name and as many transliterations of those names as we can so that when someone types it into Wikipedia, it brings them here instead of making them think there's no article about this subject. Redirects are easy to make at Wikipedia:How to make a redirect, but it's obviously going to be something I can't really help with. Valereee (talk) 14:11, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Done. Taung Tan (talk) 14:24, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Past edit

Hi, dear Lajmmoore, Thanks for editing the article. Yo removed the some words as imprecise phrasing "in the olden days". If possible, please restore and reword them because it was happening in the past and not at present. Taung Tan (talk) 11:09, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Taung Tan: "used" is past tense (present tense would be "use"), and is emphasised by the subsequent "was" rather than "is". Bazza (talk) 11:21, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
