Shabby Middle Class edit
"The novel centres around the (increasingly desperate and cruel) attempts of Patrick Standish, a 30 year old schoolmaster at the local grammar school, to seduce Jenny, against a backdrop of his skirmishes with his school authorities and with the shabby, suburban middle class milieu in which the novel is set."

Finest work? edit
"and is possibly his finest and most accomplished work" is the assertion of the contributor's point of view, and has no place in this article. It is also nonsense: this book is very far from being Amis's finest work - Lucky Jim, Ending Up, even One Fat Englishman are all superior. Brymor (talk) 20:06, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
