TOT-CAT F.C.TOT F.C. — Team renamed once again due to an ownership dispute.Druryfire (talk) 09:21, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Survey edit

  • Oppose for now. This would be the third move in less than a year. That's one reason we prefer common names to official names. This move should only go ahead if, this time, it's in accordance with Wikipedia article naming policy. The previous moves, and the rationale for this one, don't seem to have any regard for it. • Comment: But there does seem to be some evidence in favour of the proposed change in the article if you dig for it. See below. No change of vote for now. Andrewa (talk) 15:05, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

  • The clubs name is TOT F.C. , not TOT-CAT F.C., it was chanegd last year after a new owner took charge, but after a dispute the club was renamed back. TOT-CAT is currently wrong. I have a reference on the season page 2011 Thai Premier League to show the name change. If anything, the common name would be Telephone Organisation of Thailand F.C. if this was the preferred route? Druryfire (talk) 11:45, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
    • It is entirely possible, even probable, that the current name is wrong, and should be changed. But let us change it to the right name not yet another wrong name. One (only one) of the reasons we use common names is to reduce the need to rename the article every time the owner of a sporting team changes, such as you describe here. Please read the pages to which I linked above if you wish to propose a page move. Let me just repeat, any move should go ahead if and only if it is in accordance with Wikipedia article naming policy.
    • Is Telephone Organisation of Thailand F.C. really the common name? The article does not mention it. See below.
    • I note from the gallery of club logos (see below also) that the proposed article name seems to have been in use continuously from 1954 until 2009. Is this correct? If so, it might well be the common name, after all. Andrewa (talk) 15:05, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

There seem to be some other potentially affected pages, particularly Template:TOT F.C. and 2010 TOT-CAT F.C. season.

See [1] for more of these. Note that whatever we end up calling this page, redirects from current and former official names would remain, so it may not be necessary to fix links from other articles.

This proposed move does seem to minimise the other changes needed. Perhaps that's just a piece of luck, but I thought I should mention it. Andrewa (talk) 15:05, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Former names and logos edit

There is a History section in the current article, but it does not mention name changes.

Similarly, there is a gallery of club logos, but it shows only the image Tot cat fc.png, which the requested move above suggests is not current, but which is captioned 2010-. The former and possibly current logo TOT FC.svg is linked to but is missing, and is captioned 1954-09.

The infobox shows what is claimed to be a now obsolete name, and presumably also an obsolete logo.

The infobox, history and Club Logos sections should be filled out and brought up to date, regardless of the outcome of the move discussion. Andrewa (talk) 15:05, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
