Although it's not Sony, Swan Electronics has historic significance within the amateur radio community and in general as a defunct American electronics manufacturer. You might compare Swan to certain makes and models of automobiles that are no longer made; they are still collected by enthusiasts.
Note the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) made note of the company's impact on the hobby, and Google returns some 300 hits.
