Talk:Survivor: The Australian Outback/Archive 1

Location

Just out of curiosity, whereabouts was it filmed? Depending on which direction you go in, 3 hours from Cairns can be not far off as outback as it gets, or a 4 star hotel. (An idle question from someone who has never seen a Survivor trailer, never mind an episode.) Tannin

This page, http://www.bootsnall.com/travelogues/jenleo/mar01.shtml , should give you some details. Moncrief 11:39, Mar 14, 2004 (UTC)

Ahh, thankyou for that very prompt answer, Moncrief, and a link that gave me chapter and verse. YEs, stunningly beautiful country through there, but not exactly outback. Tannin

Redirects

Why are some of the player name links redirected back to this article? If there aren't any articles, isn't it better to have the links remain red to indicate this? MK2 04:47, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Redirection

Not only that, it leaves good edits and writes out in the cold. I'm not ashamed to say I've tried. It just seems so unfair to follow up a speedy deletion with a lockdown for that particular player. <Messy Thinking>

Skupin & Immunity

The article states that the Immunity challenge had already been run prior to Skupins injury, does anyone have a source for this? It's not part of the actual episode. AdamJacobMuller 05:31, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I just re-watched the episode (not a fun thing to do) and they specifically state that they didn't run the immunity challenge prior to Skupin's Injury AdamJacobMuller 05:44, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Group deletion nomination for Survivor contestants

You may wish to participate in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Keith Famie which is discussing the deletion of Outback contestants Keith Famie, Jeff Varner, Rodger Bingham, Gervase Peterson, Nick Brown (Survivor), and a couple non-Outback ones. --Rob 14:51, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

POV in the Elimination Votes section

I realized after I made the change that all the Survivor season articles have these sections and didn't exactly want to change all of them, but these sections are seriously in need of citation/removal. As an example,

Jerri Manthey - Was voted off by both most of her former tribe mates and all of Kucha's former tribe mates. Jerri is one of the least popular Survivor players ever. A lot of people thought that she was a conniving and deceitful player and most were ready to be rid of her leading to her elimination. Just as she believed the men of her tribe were terrified of Alicia, so did the men on the other tribe seem terrified of her.

Sentence 1 is ambiguous. Sentence 2 is POV without a source. Sentence 3 is ambiguous and POV. Sentence 4 is POV and almost certainly wrong. Doctofunk 15:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Sentence 1 is true. Sentence 2 isn't POV. Look at the poll at CBS.com]. Sentence 3 is from the commentaries in every episode. Sentence 4 is from her commentary. TeckWizTalkContribsGuestbook 20:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Sentence 1 should be as specific as possible, ie Jerri received votes from everyone but her ally Amber. "Most of" is ambiguous. Sentence 2 should say "A poll on CBS.com showed Jerri to have the lowest rating of all Outback cast members." and link to the source. Sentence 3 and 4 need sources also. "A lot of" is ambiguous. I don't see anything anywhere to suggest anyone was terrified of Jerri. All in all, I think this section of the article (and ones for other seasons) can use some improvement; right now I think they include a lot of personal interpretation and POV. Doctofunk 21:12, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I keep having my edits reverted without any explanation given anywhere, which isn't how this is supposed to work. I feel strongly that the Elimination Votes sections in all the Survivor pages are highly biased and POV. The program never actually shows the conversations that lead to castaways' voting decisions; rather it's edited to make good TV. So how can you give a specific reason why someone was voted out? I'd ask that someone either cite sources, remove these sections, or explain to me why they should remain. Doctofunk 04:30, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

When they vote they don't show everyone talking to the camera for suspense. But after the show, as the credits are rolling, it shows everyone casting their vote and saying why they voted for that person TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 13:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC).
If this is the source that the commentary was drawn from, it needs to referenced and a disclaimer added, ie "According to tribemates' testimonies, Nick was voted out because of..." This interview would suggest that what contestants tell the cameras is not necessarily true. Also, I'm just not sure whether the level of detail is necessary, given that the article links to writeups of each episode. I'd much rather see a detailed voting record, as in Survivor: All-Stars, perhaps with links to each episode included in the table. Doctofunk 19:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
New editions of Survivor have voting histories. I am actually the one who created the table on Survivor: All Stars. It does take some time to do. I'm not sure if you know how to create the tables, but if you do, go ahead and put it in. You can get the info from theVoting Table on CBS.com. If you don't know how to/don't want to, I will be happy to do it next week before I start school and become bery busy. If a table is created, the elim notes should still stay. Also, if you make the table, I wouldn't start it on the article because you probably won't have time to do it in one edit. Consider making a user subpage and putting it there. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 19:30, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I did the voting history table, it took a few hours to do but i got it done. 3bay sam 20:08, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Photo

What happened to the photo? Did someone delete it? TeckWizTalkContribs@ 14:27, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Apparently, someone did in fact delete the logo. I just added it back though. UWAFanatic05 07:10, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Episode titles

Where do they come from? Please cite the source.99.230.152.143 01:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Main discussion on Talk:Survivor (TV series)#Where do episode titles come from?!?. THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 05:03, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Tribe Colors

Do you think we should change the colors? They seems a little different than when I remember watching it on TV. It may just be me, but should we change it to these?:

Current Colors Suggested
Bright Turquoise Maya Blue
Bright green Lime (color wheel)

It's probably just me, but does anyone agree? I'm not going to change them unless people agree with me. Stjimmy61892 (talk) 21:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

As I said on the borneo page, I didn't see the season so I can't help. Personally, I don't mind which colour set we use. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 01:27, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I think the old colors are a much better representation towards the colors of the tribe flags and such after rewatching the season recently Survivorfan101 (talk) 08:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, after rewatching some parts of the season, the color are a bit different. However, i think they do not fit your new colors, nor the colors used. I will try and find some other colors Survivorfan101 (talk) 14:33, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
I say keep the Bright Turquoise for Kucha, but try Spring Bud for Ogakor:
Current Color My Suggestion
Bright green Spring Bud

It is similar to the lime, but i think it suits better, take a look here it shows you the colors Survivorfan101 (talk) 14:42, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

But... go look at the official website, and what I did was I took the one that most matched the color for Kucha in the Tribal Council Voting History. Go check it out.Stjimmy61892 (talk) 20:00, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, those colours match the ones on the website. I'll put them up now. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 01:07, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Done -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 01:13, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I still think the color we have for Kucha is too... bright I guess. It's just not right. I think Maya Blue as shown above looks correct. Input? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stjimmy61892 (talkcontribs) 15:19, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the Kucha color is definitely too bright. Whitestorm17 (talk) 00:22, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Ranch

The term "ranch" is highly American and is NEVER used in Australia. Shouldn't this be changed to "station?"—Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.51.8.33 (talkcontribs)

A quick google search gives nothing for "Gleneagle Cattle Station", and some hits for "Gleneagle Cattle Ranch". Unless the entire world got it wrong, then I don't think it needs to be changed. All the evidence points to "ranch" being the actual name of the place. Please sign your posts. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 09:21, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

If you google "Gleneagle Cattle Station" it brings up either the wikipedia article or pages with info copied from the wikipedia article. Do a search for "cattle station" and you will find out that this is a genuine Australian term. The term "cattle ranch" is never used in Australia and it is impossible that this place would be called so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.23.27.1 (talk) 03:13, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Further searches show that it's not "Gleaneagle Cattle" anything - the name of the place is "Goshen Station". The article has been updated and a footnote added to support the correct name. Let's hope this puts this issue to bed. -- BullWikiWinkle 19:38, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Colby Donaldson

I added how Colby should of been disqualified for stealing a peice of coral from the great barrier reef because I think it's relevant and it's in the Survivor (U.S. TV series) article under controversies and legal action. I can't find a source for it though thus the "citation needed". Can anyone help me out here? Sockies (talk) 18:59, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

I removed it for now, but feel free to add it once you find a reference. Plastikspork (talk) 20:32, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Template

Hi all, just noticed that this season doesnt have the template thing at the bottom with all the links to the other seasons. Cheers Kangaross1989 (talk) 01:46, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Spoiling Later Seasons

I can't understand why the results for the players who have participated in later seasons are announced in this page. There is no way of avoiding them and spoils future enjoyment if one has not already watched them! I am going to delete these spoilers if no particular reason is given for these. >:-( — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.255.118.153 (talk) 10:07, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
