Frains Lake, Michigan edit

That article is very borderline on the notability question. It doesn't appear on the MDOT paper state map; it doesn't appear on Google Maps. Apparently, it only appears on certain USGS maps (which aren't directly cited) according to a webpage of borderline reliability (footnote 2).

I'm not finding a whole lot of mention online of some of these landmarks, which isn't to say that they aren't notable, but I can't verify that notability. The bit about the ghost probably warrants further research and its own article, if it passes the general notability guideline. It's only tangentially related to this former community. What's left is similar to the content of things like Sagola Township, Michigan#Communities, all of which have redirects from their community names into the township article. The USGS Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) doesn't list Frains Lake, but it does list Dixboro, Michigan. That doesn't speak well to the notability of the community. (And no, the road signs aren't conclusive either since those aren't standard signs.) Imzadi 1979  05:51, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

The article for neighboring Dixboro has existed for seven years without being challenged for not being notable, even though my article has more citations. As for not being able to verify the notability of the landmarks, I provided citations. I have to be very suspicious about the fact that you initially contributed to the article before deciding that it did not merit contributions. I put a lot of work into this article and I'm not inclined to just let someone cavalierly destroy it. Dwight Burdette (talk) 06:30, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
If I were to merge the articles together, you'd have the entire first paragraph moved to this article. The second paragraph about the historic sites would be merged into that paragraph since it's one long sentence. The third paragraph's first sentence would be also retained. The second sentence of that paragraph about the lake connection isn't quite needed, and I'd discard that. The fourth paragraph about the road isn't needed at all.
The ghost stuff should be its own article, if there's more to the story. If there isn't, then it doesn't pass the GNG and isn't needed. If its desired though, it can be a section of the merged article since the ghost story encompasses more than just Frains Lake, but also Dixboro. Make it a section of the Superior Township article between the "Notable inhabitants" section and the gallery.
As for your suspicions, I'm allowed to fix up things to sort through the article in an attempt to find the valuable stuff. If this is all there is to say about this former community though, I'm still inclined to merge your work into the Superior Township article, add your photos to its gallery and enhance the township's article with more interesting items. Dixboro could also have a nice summary moved over here to round out the effort, instead of the single sentence, with a link to its full article. Mergers aren't destruction (that would be outright deletion) and instead can be construction. The Superior Township article is a a boring recitation of statistics and lacks the color of these two communities within its boundaries. Imzadi 1979  06:55, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
For a sample of how I would merge the articles together, see User:Imzadi1979/Superior Township. Imzadi 1979  07:06, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
