Secret Maryo Chronicles Clarification edit

I changed "Mario" to "Mario-like" in the Secret Maryo Chronicles entry to help clarify that SMC is not part of the Mario series and not a product of Nintendo, but I think it should be further clarified somehow. --Topsfield99 (talk) 15:20, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

It doesn't make any sense for something without brackets to redirect to something with brackets, unless it's like part of a song title or something (for example "Everything I Do"). In this case "Super Mario" redirects to "Super Mario (disambiguation)". My original point in the discussion above was that if the video game series was the primary topic, then it shouldn't have brackets. Otherwise the disambiguation page should be just "Super Mario", not "Super Mario" (disambiguation). Unreal7 (talk) 23:38, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

From our editing guideline on naming conventions for Disambiguation pages:
The title of a disambiguation page is the ambiguous term itself, provided there is no primary topic for that term. If there is a primary topic, then the tag "(disambiguation)" is added to the name of the disambiguation page, as in Jupiter (disambiguation).
There is no clear primary topic for Super Mario (which series, which game(s), the character?), thus the disambiguation page should be titled Super Mario and Super Mario (disambiguation) should redirect there. Salvidrim! 00:05, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
What your saying is that we should move this page over the current redirect at Super Mario? --Nathan2055talk - contribs 00:17, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
The disambiguation page should be at Super Mario. Super Mario (disambiguation) should redirect there. Salvidrim! 00:19, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah that's pretty much it. Unreal7 (talk)
No objections? Great. Unreal7 (talk) 01:11, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
It seems this has no objections, so I'm going to go ahead and move it. --Nathan2055talk - contribs 16:13, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Done - Another user finished the process for me, the disambig is now located in the right place. --Nathan2055talk - contribs 16:46, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 2 edit

The result of the move request was: moved. There was clear consensus to move this page to a disambiguation page, but less so about what to do with the "Super Mario" - the choices being to redirect it to Mario or move Super Mario (series) to it. Opinions were split equally on which was the best alternative, but I think czar had a good point about whether Mario was ever referred to as Super Mario - no evidence was provided to the contrary, so as part of the closure, I'll be bold and move Super Mario (series) here, but won't object to any move back. However, there should probably be an RFC on what to do with the Super Mario space if that isn't agreed to be the best solution. Number 57 11:29, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Super MarioSuper Mario (disambiguation) – I believe that the primary topic for the term "Super Mario" is Mario, the character from the video game series; the term "Super Mario" was highly recognized to represent the character as a name back during the character's creation in the 1980s. No other subject, even games that have included the Mario character, have not seemed to even come close to the level of notability/connection the synonymous connection between "Super Mario" and the Mario character. In addition, the fact that all games in the Super Mario (series) feature the eponymous character essentially puts the character as the primary topic by default. For this reasoning, I believe that this page should move to Super Mario (disambiguation) so that the "Super Mario" title can become a redirect towards Mario. I think it is more intuitive for readers this way. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  20:05, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • I'd support moving this disambiguation page away so that the character can be at this title, which could also help resolve the issue of the fictional character's dubious long-term significance compared to the common Italian name. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 19:38, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • @Joy: As I had sort of stated in the related discussion on Talk:Mario, I'd rather the term "Super Mario" be a redirect to the character article, not move the character article to "Super Mario". The character has established a name in recent years without the "Super" adjective, and really is probably better known without the "Super" adjective. Steel1943 (talk) 22:59, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • By the way, I do agree that the term "Super Mario" should refer to a primary topic, and not be a disambiguation page (either the character or the series). But, as I stated above, I believe it should be he character, and as a redirect to the character article. Steel1943 (talk) 01:28, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
The character would be my second choice. - WPGA2345 - 02:31, 8 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Partial support for the Super MarioSuper Mario (disambiguation) part but not the nominator's rationale. Any search for "Super Mario" refers to the game series (the primary topic) and not to the individual character. Is there any documentation that refers to the character as "Super Mario"? Until then, if anything, move Super Mario (series)Super Mario.   czar  14:46, 8 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
