Guyana is often included in "The Caribbean" but is not an island. It lies on the North coast of the South American continent, between Suriname to the East, Venezuela to the West and Brazil to the South. The entire North coast of South America used to be referred to as the "Guyana shield". Politically it was divided (from East to West) in Portugese Guyana (now part of Brazil), French Guyana(until present), Dutch Guyana (Suriname), British Guyana (present Guyana) and Spanish Guyana (now part of Venezuela). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulcloesen (talk • contribs) 20:32, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

This wikipedia entry fails to mention the pile of bodies that went along with: "These plantations produced eighty to ninety percent of the sugar consumed in Western Europe." Expanding "Current Status" Subtopic

I find that the "Current Status" section could use some updating. I believe that mention of sugar cane farming techniques (i.e. slash and burn) should be mentioned, and the environmental effects could be noted. Checking References

I am pointing this out because I am not savvy at wikipedia editing myself. A number of the statements seem to be made on very shaky "sources" and contradict actual historians' work. For example, The Forward, a blog post on a wine website without any references, and a newspaper opinion piece, written by a writer, not a historian, are doing quite a lot of heavy lifting for claims about Jews and the Slave trade. It also looks like every single inclusion of Jews was done by one editor, whose log shows a history of inserting Jews into things, and of being disciplined by Wikipedia for abusive edits and personal attacks on others...
