Talk:Stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh

Latest comment: 1 month ago by AnonMoos in topic History section

there are almost twice as many [citation needed]s as there are citations in this friggin article edit

Can someone work on getting some actual citations for this stuff? Thinking of deleting a paragraph in that intro because 1. exactly 0 citations and 2. doesn't sound very wikipedia like. put this poor article out of its misery!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:BCC4:2230:889D:16E9:1EF2:8EE4 (talk) 00:23, 12 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've added a general tag that should cover all of the various citation neededs (is that a word?) in the article. Now all we have to do is trim the excess tags. Feinoha Talk 00:26, 12 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
"[N]eededs" is ungrammatical, bcz "needed" is the past participial (huh! Spell correction objects to "participal", so maybe I nodded in the classroom, sixty-some years ago. I need to consult my favorite professional writer in the morning, since her mom (my [[mother in law]!) was a teacher. But here's another vocabulary word for you to use in responding to any criticism: pedant. "Use as needed", and enjoy doing so!

   Sorry, make that nodded

Uh, how about "... I nodded..." in place of "...[[continuity in fiction#Homeric Nod|I nodded]] ...", plus my promise to try not to edit when I'm too tired; would that make things right?

Stranded Pakistanis in BangladeshPakistani refugees in Bangladesh – Generally we call those type of people refugees, not "stranded". Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:54, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Generally not always, reliable sources such as news items and books refer to them as Stranded Pakistanis. Vinegarymass911 (talk) 17:21, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
The great majority of them were never in today's Pakistan (what used to be called West Pakistan), so they can't be considered refugees from Pakistan (as that title might imply)... AnonMoos (talk) 08:44, 11 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
In that case, Pakistani minority in Bangladesh would be another name we could consider? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 21:08, 11 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
That name might be starting to become appropriate, but for 35 years they weren't considered Bangladeshi citizens (the older generation still aren't). AnonMoos (talk) 22:57, 11 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Cannot be refugees, and no reason why being non-citizens doesn't stop them from being members of a minority: support Piotrus's proposal of Pakistani minority in Bangladesh. Kevin McE (talk) 14:25, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I oppose it because it's a vague bland generic name which does nothing to capture the specific historical experience of this group. Most times when you hear about "the X minority in Y", then a default mental image of the situation is assumed which would be incorrect for this case. Also, people from post-1974 Pakistan with valid Pakistani passports who travel to Bangladesh are completely separate from the group discussed in this article... Comments edit

  • Oppose - There are 6 citations given for the lead sentence, where the terminology is used. The move proposal is wholly WP:OR and possibly WP:POV-pushing. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:17, 11 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • The article is about people who was and is proud Pakistani, fought against Indians in 1947 and Bangladeshis in 1971 for Urdu and Pakistan, have choosen Pakistani citizenship, rejected Bangladeshi citizenship, still waiting to be in Pakistan!!! so the current name is perfectly okey! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.79.223.92 (talk) 00:59, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose As Vinegarymass911 and Kautilya3 have observed, "Stranded Pakistanis" is how the literature refers to them. It may not be as apt a name as it was in the immediate aftermath of East Pakistan becoming Bangladesh, and may not be a term used for other groups, but it is not Wikipedia's place to invent a "better" name for the group, but to reflect the WP:COMMONNAME. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:34, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

History section edit

I'm incredibly confused by the history section saying "there WAS a Muslim minority in Bihar"

there still is, and it exists to this day, far exceeding the number of Muslim Biharis both in Bangladesh AND Pakistan 81.100.136.95 (talk) 19:56, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think it's just stating the situation as it existed in 1947, without intending to imply anything about later periods. AnonMoos (talk) 11:41, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
