Request to delete COI tag

This page was tagged COI because "Bijourworld" created the page and appeared to have a conflict of interest. I chose the name “Bijouworld” because I wanted to create a page about Steven Toushin, owner of The Bijou Theater (the oldest gay sex club in the United States) and Bijou Video. I thought the name was cute and I meant to pay homage to the man. However, my former username caused a huge amount of confusion and a couple editors accused me of promoting Steven Toushin. As explained in my appeal to change usernames, I am not Steven Toushin and I am not promoting his businesses.

Since I do not have a COI, I would like to have the COI tag removed from the top of the page. My new name is User: De Bergerac and you can go to my talk page to check out the COI discussion that resulted in my name-change. Thank you!Bijou World (talk) 22:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Changing your name doesn't change the fact that all of your edits were to promote this guy and his work. DreamGuy (talk) 23:24, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi DreamGuy: I think that you thought there was a conflict of interest because of three reasons: 1) my former user Bijouworld suggested a formal relationship to Toushin's businesses; 2) most of my contributions in the weeks after I opened my account centered around Steven Toushin; and 3) I had included links to external websites that do in fact promote Steven Toushin by offering his books/films for sale. I will try to allay your concerns here.

(1) First, I chose the name “Bijouworld” because I wanted to create a page about Steven Toushin, owner of The Bijou Theater (the oldest gay sex club in the United States) and Bijou Video. I thought the name was cute and I meant to pay homage to the man. Despite my good intentions, my former account name became a problem because it strongly—and erroneously—suggested a conflict of interest. I have changed my username to De Bergerac in order to avoid the misleading suggestion that I am affiliated with Bijou Theater/Video.

(2) Second, as a newcomer to Wikipedia, I created the page Steven Toushin as a starting point and for the first couple weeks, most of my edits were to this page. This was mostly a function of time, and going forward I would like to continue to work on other pages related to gay porn.

(3) Finally, I formally apologized for adding links to outside vendors in my request to unblock my account. Moreover, I have removed those links from the Toushin page. Again, I am sorry. I didn't realize that adding vendor links is spamming, but now I know and I will not do it again.De Bergerac (talk) 22:15, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi DreamGuy: I just saw that you put the COI tag back on the Steven Toushin page. It is my understanding that Steven Toushin sent an email to Wikipedia stating that he gives his permission for a GFDL license so that the Steven Toushin Wiki page can show a photo of him. OrphanBot removed the photo before you posted the COI tag, so I assume that Wiki has not read (or received) an email from Steven Toushin. I plan to follow up to see if I can close the gap because I think the photo adds a lot to the page. In any event, can you please remove the COI tag? If not, can we please discuss the issue on the page's discussion page? You think a COI exists and I maintain that there is no COI. We may want to seek a third party opinion. Thank you! Murder accusations

Hey, I'm not a regular wiki editor but I wanted to point out that I noted that this page does not include any mention of the accusations of murder that were levied against Toushin. There is a Chicago Sun Times article from 1989 that delves into this further (John O`Brien & Edward Baumann, "Downfall of a High Roller") as well as other sources available.
