Copyright issues edit

As in several other pages blanked by 24.147.103.146, the allegation of copyright violation seems completely erroneous. Please note that the image is a mug shot, and is therefore in the public domain under Federal law. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 21:23, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • Likely source of image is here: [1], where it is clearly identified as a mugshot. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 18:53, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

The fact that it is on a website does not prove it is a mugshot. There is none of the typical details found in mugshot present. No textboard or police ID. Until you can find the original source you are only guessing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.103.146 (talkcontribs)

New Image edit

I think we can all reach agreement on this solution. Since the images from CourtTV are clearly identified there as being Mug Shots, I have simply replaced the previous images with the CourtTV ones. This should alleviate any potential issues. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 19:59, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Flemmi full blooded Italian edit

Stephen Flemmi is a full blooded Italian and not half Irish as indicated. The New England Mafia often invited him to join.

Source? Michael 01:03, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nobody ever claimed that Stephen Flemmi was half Irish. "Stephen Joseph Flemmi was the eldest of three sons born to Italian immigrant Giovanni and Mary Irene Flemmi. He was raised in the Orchard Park tenement located at 25 Ambrose Street in Roxbury, Massachusetts. His father was a bricklayer and veteran of the Royal Italian Army during World War I, and his mother was a full-time homemaker" [1]\----Vince 2013/07/29

Non-standard English edit

I corrected a couple of obvious typos or misspellings, but the article struck me overall as needing some cleanup.Tzittnan 20:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Needs Copy Editing badly edit

I think that a better tag for this article would be for Copy Editing. I am going to add that and remove the "wikify" and "cleanup" tags, as copy editing is a more appropriate term for what this page needs. It is already formatted and categorized like a typical wikipedia biography (therefore already wikified), and it looks clean (therefore not requiring cleanup). Its only the writing itself that is poor, the content is great. Benijuana 12:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Did some quick grammatical error correction - will continue after I have had someone proofread. --NeonRoses 20:50, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree that copy editing was badly needed, so I went ahead and did it. I hope that I have improved the article. If anyone can suggest more changes or wants to make different ones, I welcome them to go ahead. Rogermx 23:37, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please follow Wikipedia style for headings, i.e., use Sentence case for headings, not Title Case for Headings. Please see WP:MSH. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 02:16, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Info on Paul Rico edit

I added the Salvati reference on Flemmi implicating Paul Rico, his first FBI handler. Rogermx 00:31, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

FBI edit

Not everyone in the world knows what the FBI is. It is useful for non-American readers to spell it out on the first instance. this is consistent with what the Wikipedia Manual of Style has to say on the issue. See WP:MOS#Acronyms_and_abbreviations. Ground Zero | t 14:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clean up edit

I have cleaned this article up to bring it in line with Wikipedia:Manual of Style, including:

  • remove repeated links and links to plain English words per WP:CONTEXT
  • reduce length of links to actual article title by eliminating abuse of link piping
  • remove links to date per MOS:SYL
  • removed links to acronyms
  • fixed capitalization of headings per WP:MOS

Irony edit

"He began dating his stepdaughter Deborah Hussey. At the time she was twenty-six, ironically the same age as his girlfriend-mistress Debra Davis when she had been murdered."

This is not ironic in any sense at all. --IRONY-POLICE (talk) 00:15, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

That entire paragraph seems to talk about both Debras (Davis and Hussey) at the same time, switching back and forth and it is unclear which one. It even occasionally changes the spelling to Deborah. The whole article needs a re-write. -Vorenus (talk) 16:56, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pedophile edit

In the 1990's in both the Boston Globe & the Boston Herald there were articles alleging that Stephen Flemmi & Whitey Bulger "broke-in" numerous 13 year old girls by giving them heroin, and once the girls were hooked, that they then used these girls for sex for years. One of the articles also mentioned that one of those girls died of a drug overdose by her early 20's. Where these stories ever verified to the degree that they could be mentioned in this Wikipedia article? If so this would also mean that Flemmi is an alleged pedophile. Good-wins-eventually (talk) 14:39, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Here is the source, so there is no question that he is an alleged pedophile and the article should say so, right at the top. http://business.highbeam.com/3972/article-1G1-73002338/stolen-innocence-special-report-whitey-bulger-exploited

Not to nitpick, but pedophilia is sexual attraction to prepubescent children. 13 year old girls have generally hit puberty, so he's not a pedophile. He's still a sexual predator, but he's a statutory rapist, not a pedophile. Shiafreeziah (talk) 16:34, 24 July 2013 (UTC) Not to nitpik, but read this informative article on pedophilia. In 1980 girls completed puberty by 20. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vincedumond (talkcontribs) 21:40, 29 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

  1. ^ Although there is a wide range of normal ages, girls typically begin the process of puberty at age 10 or 11; boys at ages 11–12.[1][2][3] Girls usually complete puberty by ages 15–17,[3][4][5] while boys usually complete puberty by ages 16–17.[3][4][6]
See Hebephile. But the point is not that he was attracted to young girls (that seems to be the rule rather than the exception) but rather that he exploited them -- deliberately got them hooked on heroin and ruined their lives -- for his own amusement. I agree this is worth mentioning. --Rosekelleher (talk) 06:21, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I added a brief mention near the end. There should be more information, and it should be more prominent. As is, it looks like we don't think it's a big deal. But I can't spend any more time on this. --Rosekelleher (talk) 07:59, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nickname? edit

Whence the nickname "rifleman?" I don't see anything about this, and I'd think it was a pretty significant item to skip. There's a reference to him killing one person with a rifle, but that hardly seems enough to qualify as a nickname.

Or it might; what do I know about Boston mobsters? The point is that the nickname is not referenced. Anyone have anything?
