I'm afraid I still do not see anything making this church any more notable than any other Baptist church. Please help me understand. James084 02:15, 6 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Compared to the information on Calvary Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church, which are two others I found on Wikipedia first, I would humbly maintain that this is more significant -- racism in Stechford was a national flashpoint in the 1977 Stechford By-election (which led to the collapse of the Labour government) and at a wider level in the 1985 Handsworth riots, which reached as far as Stechford. The death of Charmaine Ellis and her friend three years ago and the Lozells riots last year both reached the top of the UK national news agenda. Incidentally, most of the political links to Stechford in Wikipedia, including the byelection, were missing because it was mispelled 'Stetchford', which may well have clouded its significance. The work of one of the church leaders was acknowledged with an MBE and a Queen's Jubilee Medal, which I would suggest underlines the significance. MartinTurner
