They did as far as possible. A standard literary form of Dutch had already started to develop at the end of the 16th century, but the translation itself was also instrumental in setting a standard for the future. The translators (who were from different parts of the country) discussed different grammatical constructions and spelling patterns from various dialects and voted on what they should use before they started the translation, which shows that not everything was considered settled at that time. - Lindert (talk) 00:21, 24 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
