On 13 July 1922 the government of Estonia determined following official translations for Estonian term "Riigivanem":
- English: State Head or President
- French: Chef d'Etat or President
- German: Staatspräsident
- Russian: Глава Республики

Translation of "Riigivanem" according -Estonia and the Estonians (Studies of Nationalities) Hoover Institution Press ISBN-10: 0817928529 is Head of State. As usually in English relevant titles are always Head of...instead -Head, I would rename the article accordingly. "State Elder" in English just referrers to like a some kind of tribal leader, therefor is not appropriate.--Termer 07:29, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Move suggestion edit
Since Estonia has had other heads of state (ie, the Presidents since 1991), this title is misleading. Thus I would suggest a move elsewhere. Maybe "State Elder of Estonia", maybe some other location, but the current title tends toward inaccuracy. Biruitorul 02:33, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Elder of State seems to be an official translation of Riigivanem ([1]), although State Elder is used as well. Perhaps Estonian Elder of State or just Elder of State, as that article does not exist? -- Sander Säde 03:31, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest State Elder of Estonia, because it seems to be the most commonly used here in Wikipedia and other sources (compared to Elder of State of Estonia). And this should be moved, because Head of State of Estonia should not be a list of heads of government from only 13 years. The article Prime Minister of Estonia is misleading as well, including also this article. As I see it, the Prime ministers article could be moved to Head of State of Estonia article, this article should be moved to State Elder of Estonia and a separate article for only Prime ministers (1918-1920 ; 1934-1940 ; 1991-today) should be created. - After nobody has said or done anything after 15 years, I devided to move it to State Elder of Estonia. It is used more often in this article itself, this move has been requested since 2008, and Wikipedians don't see that 'Heads of State of Estonia' is a title rather than a position by making Category:Presidents of Estonia a subcategory.
