Initial discussion edit

Thread retitled from "Starting the article". |
Thread retitled from "Expansion of the article".

I started this page after reading a news article talking about President Bush poking fun at Los Angeles Times reporter Peter Wallsten, who has the disease. [1]

I'm going to attempt to expand it, my girlfriend has it, so I know quite a bit about it. --Varco 20:30, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Also, that link is dead, here's one that works: [2] --Varco 20:36, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I did a bit of expansion, but it still has a long way to go; I'm going to leave the expand tag. I included the bit about Bush in the article. --Varco 21:12, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
My wife also has it, we have a 10 year old daughter that has no signs of the disease, and she has an 18 year old son from a prior marriage that also shows no signs of Stargardts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.113.74.213 (talk) 15:09, 23 July 2006‎ (UTC)Reply

Image use edit

I'm new to wikipedia, but I work in the field and could try to provide several images ilustrating the disease (pictures of the retina acquired with several equipments). How should I handle this issue, specially due to legal constrainst (I believe I can get patients informed consent to use their images without disclosing their identity). Welcome to wikipedia! I need more information to properly inform you. Will the person be visible with the image as in will it show his or her face or any other recognizable features? Which country (legal jurisdiction) will the pictures be taken in? Also do take a look at Commons:Photographs of identifiable people and Commons:Country specific consent requirements which should offer a good overview. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 17:16, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. No, it will only be fundus images (as the ones you get when search google images for "stargardt image autofluorescence". However, you now have biometric identification, and retina image may be equivalent to a fingerprint. Any specific laws to that? Pictures will be taken in Portugal. I've looked at the links and belive they do not apply to this case, since the face is not visible. Patient must provide it's consent to the healthunit, and then this one to wikipedia, or directly patient->wikipedia? Best regards (84.91.3.196 (talk) 18:06, 4 January 2012 (UTC))Reply

Image from Romanian wikipedia edit

I ran a search for an image of Stargard, and a found this image from the Romanian wikipedia. According to my search tool, it is fair use, but I'm not sure how to include it in this article. The typical format doesn't recognize the romania image address. Anybody know? Do I need to upload it to the english wikipedia? Rytyho usa (talk) 11:46, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rytyho, thanks for your search, but the image is not stargart disease, it is a case age related macular degeneration.Regards.Kiatdd (talk) 05:19, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ahh, that's a shame - I didn't notice that. Thanks for the heads-up. Rytyho usa (talk) 20:08, 16 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Add image of retina please edit

If anyone has a fair-use image of the retina in a person with Stargardt disease, please add it! Rytyho usa (talk) 20:09, 16 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Expansion for Course Assignment edit

I will be expanding this article for a course assignment in a class I am taking this semester at Cornell University. Having suffered from Stargardt's Disease, I have a pretty good set of knowledge on this topic and there is much more research that has been done on the topic to be added to this page. I plan to expand the "genetics", "History" and "treatment" sections as well as add pictures to be used to give a visual depiction of the view of a retina affected by Stagradt's Disease. I will most likely be working in a group with others to make improvements on this page and as time goes on I will make you aware of who they are. Everything that will be added to this page will be relevant information and will be cited to provide clarification that there has indeed been research done on the matter. Hello Ajbose! Thanks for your interest in this article. If you have questions or need help finding reliable sources to cite then come ask at WikiProject Medicine. Also when you like, ask in that forum for feedback on what you have done. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:21, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
That's excellent, thank you for contributing! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Rytyho usa (talk) 16:14, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Citations and advertising edit

Can we get some verifiable sources for those entries missing them? And please, stop advertising your products.--PhiladelphiaInjustice (talk) 11:28, 1 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for removing the advertisement. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:36, 1 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I plan to update some of the citations and remove dead links. I will also add more links and edit the section on diagnosis and perhaps something on current. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johndhall (talkcontribs) 05:25, 6 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
