Remove "cardinal" from the name. Only the press calls it such. It is not the official name/mascot. In fact the students use the bands mascot "the tree" when referring to Stanford — Preceding unsigned comment added by LSJUMB (talk • contribs) 14:55, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Lead too long edit
Does anybody else think the lead in this article is too long? Per MOS:LEAD, "[a]s a general rule of thumb, a lead section should contain no more than four well-composed paragraphs and be carefully sourced as appropriate."

- Suitably referenced
- Reasonably covers the topic. Leaves me a bit wanting for a lot of the coaches' eras as a casual reader, but given the scope and length of the article, the level of detail is passable (perhaps an area for improvement).
- Defined structure
- Reasonably well-written. Needs a thorough pass for WP:MOS compliance, but this is not an auto-fail for B class.
- Contains good supporting material (good tables)
- Content is appropriately understandable
Top importance is unchanged.
