Copyrighted information edit

I have removed the History section of the article, as it was copied from the website http://www.nudgee.com/Past%20Web/nc_tradition/tradition_intro.htm. ... discospinster 00:43, 25 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tone edit

Tagged for tone and POV. It is not wikipedia's job to comment on how impressive or beautiful something is. At most, it should say it is regarded as impressive or beautiful. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Android93 (talkcontribs) 16:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC).Reply

The phrases have been removed and instead replaced with facts. ie. The facade has been used in movies and tv adds no mention as to why it was used for those things. and the chappel has won design awards as oposed to beautiful.

Added NPOV due to article promoting the school in good terms, failing to mention varying negative aspects. Will be added in future.

International Collective edit

The Famous "International Collective" departed in 2000 after five years. This group is widely acknowledged as bringing about an end to the mob mentality which had plagued the school for much of the 1990s.

What on earth is the International Collective? And why is it famous? It is really notable at all? When will the questions end?.... Blarneytherinosaur talk 12:21, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

A figment of some students imagination. ObesAU 23:48, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

No big surprises there. Thanks for confirming that, ObesAU. Blarneytherinosaur talk 02:48, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

NPOV edit

I have removed the NPOV tag - there may have been an issue in the past, but I can see nothing that could even remotely justify the tag now. Nothing in the article portrays the College in an unjustifiably positive light. If anyone can prove otherwise, then do so by all means. Cheers, Rob Lindsey 09:07, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Except for one possibly borderline term which I have toned down...just to make sure! ;) Rob Lindsey 09:10, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you look at the history that tag continually is getting put back in by a vandal that is just logged in via an IP. Surely there has to be some way of limiting anonymous and first time entries. A lot of the vandalism that goes on is slander is by first entry users or anonymous users. Because it gets stored in the history forever it causes many people a lot of grief because they are being attacked and have no way to defend themselves. ObesAU 23:40, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Cool, thanks for the pointer. I'm not too concerned about blocking vandals in this case... I'm taking on the task of protecting Christian Brothers schools articles from vandalism (as part of my pet Wikipedia interests), so if it happens again, it won't be up for long! • Oh, and to answer your comment, I suppose articles can be locked from editing by unregistered or new users (most featured articles are), but I understand that it's only for extreme cases. Rob Lindsey 00:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Great news. I have been staying on top of it as much as I can. And its good to see someone fixing up the CBC pages. ObesAU 09:06, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • "In the latter half of 2007, Nudgee College was voted by its fellow members of the GPS as the greatest GPS school through its achievements in the classroom, community and sporting field." - I seriously doubt it, as far as I know there is no award for the greatest GPS school and if there was, I doubt it'd be Nudgee. I'm not 100% sure but I think it should definitely be removed from the article. Thanks. 121.45.203.92 (talk) 06:51, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Agreed and removed. Thanks, Mattinbgn\talk 06:57, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

NPOV edit

It is a member of the prestigious Queensland GPS Association. Prestigious? How so? JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 04:02, 22 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

They are the most expensive schools in the state, the richest, the oldest, the most impressive in all respects including producing the vast majority of the who's who when they leave the GPS schools. Its undeniable. 167.203.18.38 (talk) 15:18, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

War Cry edit

@User:JRA_WestyQld2, Why did you remove the Nudgee war cry. You cite WP:SCFT as one reason, but if you consider it Schoolcruft then why not also remove the Houses section too? Where do you draw the line? The official Nudgee war cry (as opposed to many the other war crys that come and go) is a historic prose consisting of English, Latin and Maori that has it's roots in a Ruby tour of New Zealand many decades ago. It is a deep seated tradition that is as important to thee school's history as it's motto or its colours.--Cskitch (talk) 13:01, 10 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cool, I guess it would look good on the website then. I guess I should remove the Houses as well then? They also make the page look tacky and are of very little importance. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 23:28, 10 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, I have reverted the war cry. I also added some historical context (doh! forgot to log in first). Let me know if you think this is OK or not. Regarding the Houses, I tend to agree with you, however looking around I find of the 9 GPS school, 5 of them include details of their house system. One of the oldest schools in the world also includes details of their house system. So I reckon it should stay. Maybe it would look nice if it was converted to a table like this one?--Cskitch (talk) 15:36, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just remember WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS isn't really a great way to justify putting more unencyclopedic information on the net. You need to reference what you reverted with reliable third party references. The houses on Eton College are used to describe the subject, not to state it which is what has happened in this article and Brisbane Boys' College. Honestly, I don't think the house system has a place in any of the aforementioned Australian schools articles. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 23:31, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately my reference for the history of the war cry is located on the other side of the world. I have a very good History of Nudgee book back in Australia that was published in 1991 for the schools centenary. I'll see if I can get my hands on it sometime in the near future and will update the reference then.
I tend to agree on the house sections. They aren't really important to the schools, they aren't very interesting, and I doubt their encyclopedic merit.--Cskitch (talk) 13:31, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll add a citation tag to the war cry section and keep that section in place, hopefully yourself or someone else can provide a reference. I'm going to scrap the houses though, because it's not notable. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 08:37, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
