During the war Adrian Squire worked with my father at the Bristol Aeroplane Company experimental engine division at Patchway Bristol. Here is my fathers account of how Adrian and others died.

"On 25th September 1940 there was a German daylight raid on the works. 57 HEINKEL111S dropped over 100 tons of bombs and extensively damaged the factories at Filton and Patchway. Over 70 people were killed and many more injured. The shelter next to the one I was in was hit, and several people killed including Adrian Squire, engineer in charge of the development of the Centaurus engine. After the raid, the drawing office was dispersed, and housed in various large houses in Clifton, off Whiteladies Road. After about a year, we were all united again in the main building of Fry's chocolate factory at Somerdale , near Keynsham."
