Most commonly used musket/rifle during the American Civil War? edit

This article states that "The Model 1861, with all of its variants, was the most commonly used longarm in the U.S. Civil War, with over 700,000 manufactured". Yet according to the article about the British Pattern 1853 Enfield "It has been estimated that over 900,000 P53 Enfields were imported to America and saw service in every major engagement from the Battle of Shiloh (April, 1862) and the Siege of Vicksburg (May 1863), to the final battles of 1865", and since 900,000 is usually considerably more than 700,000 it seems like there were more P53 Enfields in use during the ACW than Model 1861 Springfields. So one of those claims must be wrong, but which one is it? Allan Akbar (talk) 20:32, 11 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The numbers vary according to whose source you use, but every source I've ever read agrees that the Springfield was the most widely used, and the Enfield was the second most widely used. Engineer comp geek (talk) 08:35, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
