seems either needless [generally speaking, idols are statues and spirit tablets are just writing, a point already made] or (which is actually the case) defensive and unsourced POV injection, trying to draw a line between "pagan" worship and what's going on in East Asia. Lord knows what the status is post-Vatican II but it's a fairly huge deal in religious history that—albeit from a place of extreme ignorance—the Catholic Church took the official position that veneration at spirit tablets is idolatry. Moreover, it's simply false that idols must be statues; there are definitions of the term that certainly apply to spirit tablets. — LlywelynII 00:59, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
